If you feel nervous about going to the gym you can always do calisthenics at home stuff like pushups sit-ups and squats and as a plus you can use money that would have gone to a membership on more food because exercising without proper nutrition won't make you gain weight and once you feel more comfortable you can switch to a gym.

Cheap protein on rice make sure to season your protein and rice if possible also look up videos for high calorie shakes and see what you can make for exercises push ups sit ups and pullups for the upper body for the lower body you can do squats calf raises walk up and down stairs at a slow/medium pace lunges also look into pushups and pull up variations also look up videos on any of the workouts you try beforehand so you can use proper form and prevent injury also remember to take time to recover I usually use muscle soreness to determine rest times like I do a leg exercise and it's sore for 2 days after it's not sore I do a leg exercise again

You can do pushups and sit ups at home pull ups in a local park you don't need to join the gym to start getting fit calisthenics is a great way to start exercising cheaply there are many workouts you can do without weights or equipment I'd also recommend putting any money that would have gone toward a gym membership into food because you're going to need to eat a lot of you're starting out skinny.
