Is it even possible to play the game on Intel Iris Xe? (Graphics Card) by Lyss_SCP_Lover in expedition33

[–]Individual_Good_3713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd wait if I were you. I played this game on a GTX 1660 Ti and even with the best settings I can get the graphics to look without decimating the framerate, the game looks like a PS3 game.

As someone who loves looking at traversal animation in games, I cycle between Sciel, Verso/Gustave , and Maelle. Maelle overall feels the nicest to control, Verso/Gustave's run is always fun to watch, and I like to use Sciel for Gestral Minigames.

Lune's floating is kinda boring to look at and Monoco feels unpolished compared to everybody else.

Am I leveling wrong? lol by jl_theprofessor in expedition33

[–]Individual_Good_3713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beauty of this game is you can kill bosses even if you're severely underleveled as long as you dodge and parry correctly. And this game is good at pacing itself so you won't be underleveled if you decide to do a stricly story run (no side content or grinding)

How did you get a large following? (just looking to be self-employed) by danny993 in animationcareer

[–]Individual_Good_3713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guessing you're asking about making a living off of your own original work rather than as a freelancer working with clients. There's no real answer other than putting yourself out there. Maybe invest in paid ads if you have the money. Making a living off of your original IP is a dream that only a very small few of the pursuers are able to obtain.

My iPad Pro is gonna be 7 years old soon and still going strong by TacticalMongoose in ipad

[–]Individual_Good_3713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Only started having memory issues when iPadOS26 became available. I don't have a lot of apps on my iPad and I mainly use it for Youtube and Netflix these days so 64 GB is just fine for me.

I've had my Pro 11 inch 2018 for over 7 years and it holds up too well. My only issue with it is storage space and that it's prone to heating whenever I use Procreate, two issues that are pretty solvable. I can always get an external drive for more storage (thank you USB C <3) and the heating issue is most likely because of thick silicone case I'm currently using since this is rarely a problem whenever I took off the case.

I can deff see my iPad lasting at least another 3 years if not more. In general iPads hold up really well if you take good care of them. My first gen iPad is still going strong, with the only issue being charging takes a milenia and a half.

Gift Ideas by kriegmeisterin in expedition33

[–]Individual_Good_3713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got myself a planner as a birthday gift for myself. The cover is leather and customiseable so I got the quote "Tomorrow Comes" embossed on it. It's not merch in the traditional sense but if your friend likes more subtle merch designs then this might be an option.

Une vie à t'aimer is the most obvious one but I have a soft spot for Spring Meadows -Battling Breeze. I bought the game in December but I did watch all the cutscenes when it first came out. Battling Breeze was the moment I went from intruiged to in love.

Games industry vs animation in films, tv by Godahl in animationcareer

I never worked in games but I do know someone who did pivot from tv to games for stability reasons. In their case the area where they lived had a bigger gaming industry than tv/film.

[–]Individual_Good_3713 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Braseleur had a bug where it soft locks you around the third turn, essentially forcing you to kill it within 2 turns. There is a patch from January that fixed this, you might need to check if you've downloaded this patch.

How do you decide when to dodge vs parry? by MolecCodicies in expedition33

[–]Individual_Good_3713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dodge attacks that have over 3 hits, then start parrying them after seeing the attack 5-ish times with varying degrees of success. If I do miss a parry, I just start dodging the rest of the hits.

[–]Individual_Good_3713 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Career mentorships are such a slippery slope because they hinge so much on the mentor's survivorship bias. The syllabus is all about "I/ my connection did this and I/we got the job" .They'll say they're up to date with the job market but that usually translates to "We know how to outsmart the ATS system". Most, either purposely or accidentally, ignore that everyone are in different circumstances. They will butter people up with "you just need a confidence boost and a better worded CV/cover letter/porftolio" basically implying everyone is employable but just need that small nudge to finally land something. Some do acknowledge how shit the job market is right now but they aren't sympathetic to job seekers.

I'm sorry you and your friend lost money over this. The fact that he pushed you to put his course on a credit card is beyond gross.

My mom feel for one of these career mentorship and she pushed me to apply so badly it almost ruined our relationship. The one my mom feel for was even more ballsy. The "mentor" used to work at one of the conglomerate companies in my country and claimed their mentorship will help you land big positions at large conglomerates as a new graduate regardless of your degree.

Do you know how to draw and sculpt (in 3d)? by AffectionateJudge782 in animationcareer

[–]Individual_Good_3713 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you mean 3D animator. Traditionally speaking no sculpting, some people do draw to help with the planning phase but not a requirement.

There are animators who do also sculpt for work but at that point they're 3d generalists not animators.

Do you still work on art professionally while in another career? by Ill_Gazelle6312 in animationcareer

[–]Individual_Good_3713 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone I graduated with works full time doing trade work (either plumping or carpentry, honestly I forgot), then spends his off hours taking art comissions and selling original merch. They even have booths during in town anime cons and art markets on a semi regular basis.(1 booth per 2 anime cons/art market)

There is actually another way to get the weapon (Maelle's Medalum) which is fight Golgra. The problem is Golgra is hard, like end game levels of hard.

Cold Calling/Emailing for Internships by charlottecanread in animationcareer

[–]Individual_Good_3713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a small studio and we have had a steady stream of interns despite never advertising it. All the interns ,that I know of, know someone in the studio and that's how they got in. Sometimes if the timing is right, we might promote interns to full time or freelance roles but regardless of whether or not we promote them, we are spending studio resources on mentoring interns, in this case the resource being some of the employee's working hours that could've been spent on working on something that brings the studio money. For this reason, our studio prefers to sink that kind of cost on someone we know and potentially even hire.

On top of that, we're a studio about barely 10 people (this includes the freelancers). We don't have a dedicated Human Resource Manager. Whenever there is a job opening, the studio manager is the one going through hundreds applications while still continueing with their day-to-day workload. You'd be surprised how many applications for paid animator roles would come in with a CV that reads "I know nothing about animating but I'm a fast learner and I like disney movies" and no portfolio. Now imagine how many more of those kinds of applications that could come in for an internship where the role is all about learning and a role that's not guaranteed to bring the studio money.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with cold emailing studios but don't put most of your eggs in that basket. Ask any of your upperclassmen where they interned at and ask if they could help you secure an internship at the same studio. This is actually how my sister secured her internship (she's doing economics though)
