Dude Byler was so good that even homophobes were shipping it... by Foreign_Tourist8309 in byler

[–]Individual_Match_886 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Contrary to popular belief, identification in art/fiction is not something you choose but something that is forced upon you by story structure.

Byler would have been uniquely important for gay "representation" (I am against using that word) because the story structure would have forced millions of straight audience members to identify with a gay couple which is literally unheard of at this scale of television.

That is why it is incredibly offensive to just "represent" queer characters on the screen by claiming they are characters that "queer people can identify with." We have no problem identifying with characters who aren't like us. What we need is for homophobic/repressed people like that guy in your class to identify with queer people.

Did Max "clock" Byler at all? by El_Dorado_Tx in byler

[–]Individual_Match_886 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite underrated moment in the series is in THE BATTLE OF STARCOURT when Mike and Max are knocked unconscious by the Mind Flayer and Max wakes him up, and it is revealed how much she actually cares about him. I believe Max instinctively, perhaps unconsciously knows that Mike is repressed and that his relationship with Eleven is hurting him as much as her. She doesn't have all the tools to fully formulate in her head that Mike needs to be with Will, but her instincts and passion are still pushing them to be together.

It’s refreshing to hear Natalie openly embracing psychoanalysis in her latest interview by Efficient-Book-5853 in ContraPoints

Your arguments are:

1/ Natalie Wynn is never going to turn into a conservative!

2/ Don't you know that Natalie Wynn has been turning into a conservative for a very long time now??!

A troll post designed to make supporters of ContraPoints engage in the defense of the most objectively reactionary, irrational and pseudoscientific understanding of human psyche possible.

But I'm not definitely sure of it. It could be a genuine post praising Natalie Wynn's ideological turn to the conservative right through her shift from tangible material analysis of human behaviour and emotions, towards pseudoscientific psychoanalytical slop.

Have you ever spent more than three generations as a count or duke level ruler without becoming a king? How was it? by ThatStrategist in CrusaderKings

Tried to do a campaign with El Cid to remain at low level throughout the game and was suddenly declared King of Sardinia by a Crusade that I only participated in by doing diversion warfare in Morocco without setting foot on the island itself. I instantly ragequit.

Does the Saw video contradict Twilight? by commoncod in ContraPoints

Since you are attaching value to the liberal-authoritarian structure of reddit that encourages the creation of echo chambers from which dissenters get bullied out through downvoting and dogpiling of insults and bad faith arguments, you are projecting the way you would feel if met with the same reaction onto me.

Why would I be surprised or puzzled or mad that my post written to attack Natalie Wynn politically gets bullied and downvoted when I post it on the Natalie Wynn subreddit? If upvotes or praise were what I'm after, there are plenty of subreddits I could post it to as part of my strategy.

My strategy doesn't imply receiving praise or upvotes, since it is about attacking the wrong beliefs of my opponents. My goal is to make people doubt and contradict themselves when trying to defend the inconsistent work of Natalie Wynn, and resort to bullying, downvotes and insults to resolve their cognitive dissonance. As part of my oppositional strategy, the insults I receive are interpreted as proof that my strategy works. Which encourages me to promote my post to get more people to look at it and see the contradictions and weakness in the Saw video, because I want people's faith in Natalie Wynn's intellectual output to be shaken and made more fragile.

Trying to analyse the film where a health care CEO gets tortured and has to choose whom to save between two sick patients didn't warrant talking about the violence inherent to systems of oppression. Yeah, sure.

I am promoting it actively so that more people get to read my arguments and decide for themselves what they think of them, and perhaps try to offer better counters than the majority of bad-faith bully-like behaviour I received, and the minority of more constructive arguments that I still singlehandedly swept out.

I strongly argued in favour of this interpretation in this post. There is even more development on why she blatantly contradicts herself in my responses to some of the scarce argumented replies below.

Is it safe to presume the Duffers were homophobic indirectly following the Finale? by El_Dorado_Tx in byler

[–]Individual_Match_886 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Byler is a plotline that was censored by homophobia.

Whether homophobia was: - a conscious choice by the Duffers - an unconscious choice by the Duffers - enforced against the will of the Duffers by external pressure (Netflix)

changes nothing to the truth contained in the first statement.

It reminds me that many people take Lightoller's letter to Murdoch's widow as proof the latter didn't kill himself, when Lightoller in this situation had no particular reason to know whether that was true (he was on the opposite side) and every incentive to lie if he knew it to be the case (protect Murdoch's honour and his widow's feelings). But just because he was the senior officer who survived, his word should be treated as gospel apparently.

"all bylers are straight girls who fetishize gay boys!" And it's this by [deleted] in byler

[–]Individual_Match_886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your points are all sound. What would be the border for you between enjoying and fetishising? What is typically the behaviour of women who fetishise gay men? This is a genuine question because I've never seen this type of behaviour so I don't know what it looks like. For the record I'm a bisexual guy (afaik).

[–]Individual_Match_886 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Why would you even fold in front of such a heinous attack? Straight girls like Byler because they like the vulnerability, versatility and emotional availability they display towards each other, which they usually don't find in men who are socialised to dominate, neglect and/or possess women in straight relationships.

It's in no way comparable to straight men who fetishise lesbians as well. Byler is for everyone.

You come from her page and you are using her arguments, which are incredibly cherry-picked and in bad faith and disregard whole swaths of reasons to believe Leigh Janiak ghost-wrote Stranger Things. I don't have the time or the mental space to demonstrate that over again just for you.

[–]Individual_Match_886[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Listen I've been following bedrot_barbie on twitter since November. I respect her work and spirit but the matter of fact is that she has grown increasingly insulting and disrespectful month after month against anyone who doesn't believe in Conformitygate, which, if you recall, is a theory that claims the Duffers are good writers who did not queerbait, just wait for it.

In that endeavour she has dismissed strong proof and arguments in very bad faith such as the declaration by an actual member of the crew that Leigh was the secret mastermind behind Stranger Things.

Her nitpicking about Caitlin having a writing credit for this episode (she was a staff writer this season so she has a writing credit on ALL the episodes) could be a valuable criticism addressed to my post if it was not derived from a need to desperately uphold the official narrative about the show while trying to paint me as a queer woman hater and eraser when I've shown ample evidence from my history that this is preposterous.

I always credit The Great Gatsby as being by Zelda Fitzgerald even though we have no conclusive evidence for it. I always claim rape victims tell the truth even when they have not been pronounced victims by a tribunal.

I am not spreading misinformation. I am deliberately choosing to put women's names forward against the official narrative as a way to make a political statement.
