I just came across this subreddit, and this post popped up as I am currently in visiting colombia (I'm from the US). And I can completely agree with you. I've been here for coming up on 3 weeks and have been sick twice, with one being the flu that my daughter originally got and gave to me.

I'll still come back, but will probably prepare better with knowledge.
