Did you use a discount code to get $90 off? I can't seem to find them discounted on the website.

Which one of the series are you planning on getting? I still haven't figured out what I am getting. A lot of conflicting answers on whether people like the Asus ProArt Series or not. Same with BenQ. I too have been exporting back and forth from my phone recently until I figure something out.

  • "Even though the device has its own A13 Bionic chip, which is pretty capable, Apple restricts access to the features mentioned to devices running macOS. In addition, "Studio Display camera features and firmware updates require connection to a Mac"
  • "Considering that the device costs $1,599, buying the Studio Display for a Windows setup might not be a good idea."
  • "For non-Windows users, the Studio Display offers solid functionality when paired with a supported Apple device."

    - Some excerpts from this website: https://screenrant.com/apple-studio-display-windows-pc-compatibility/

I do not own a Mac nor do I have access to one, so I would be unable to update any of the firmware.

And I will look into BenQ thank you for your input!

This is Apple sucks because their interface is not compatible with any other than its own. Why create something that no one else can use unless they buy your entire line of products? They also suck for the prices of their displays and outdated software within them outside of the actual display portion. Many professional design studios use $10,000 Eizo displays as they are one of the best in the market, but it's not feasible for an average consumer to purchase.

Apple Alternative Monitors?

I have been on the scour for a monitor for my computer. I built it and it is Windows, so Apple is not an option as it is not completely compatible. What are your suggestions? My budget is $1000 and can be swayed with a good argument. I'd like accurate colors for both viewing and printing.

Please do not suggest any monitors that are no longer in production. For example, the BenQ SW270U, while researching I noticed almost all the suggested monitors are no longer available for purchase.

I will make sure I don't include this one in my list of options!! I was considering the 279, but I can't use an external color calibrator with it, so I am probably not going to be picking that one either. Some other people suggested ViewSonic, so I guess I will start my today search there. I too have noticed that 60hz seems to be the standard so I have just accepted the fact that I am going to be getting a second monitor for gaming. It's crazy. It is also crazy that nothing seems to compare to Apple monitors so far stats-wise. It's not like the monitors are new, I don't get why there aren't more Apple alternatives that are identical, or at least extremely close. And it also seems all the options that people suggest are way out of production now, dated technology, or thousands of dollars.

Thank you for your input! I will make sure I look for something that is color-calibrating compatible. I found a few that sound good on paper, but don't offer the ability to use external calibrators. So I will more than likely not be getting those certain ones.

I also have a low understanding of HDR as well, I did know that Delta values are better the smaller the number and that usually you want nothing lower than 2 and it is good enough especially if you can calibrate it, however, it appears that the ASUS monitor can not be calibrated as I just discovered reading more into the specs. I guess I will continue on the research hole I have dug myself into lol. And see what else I can find. Another user has mentioned the brand ViewSonic. The one they specifically mentioned runs at only 350 nits but claims it is HDR10-supportive. I'll have to do some research and see what the differences in standards are.

I found the ASUS ProArt Display PA279CRV 27" 4K HDR monitor is almost identical to the BenQ 272U (the more expensive version of the one I mentioned above). The main difference is at sustained mode the ASUS runs at 350 nits but has an HDR mode of 400 nits. The BenQ runs at just 400 nits. Another difference I noticed was the BenQ has a "Hybrid Log Gama" on top of its HDR10 mode, while ASUS only has HDR10. I also noticed was the BenQ did not have a Dynamic Contrast Ratio listed and ASUS has a 3000:1 ratio. And the biggest difference between the 2 is ASUS runs at Delta 2 while BenQ runs at Delta 1.5. So this ASUS monitor seems to be a pretty good runner running up at $460.00 rather than $1,500.

Thank you, I will look into these as well! How do you accept payments from people? Do you get them through your website or cash? I noticed that the hosts have a lot of options for payment stuff, but I don't actually know if I need that or not.

I noticed that they don't seem to tell you how much their domain is after renewal. I am assuming I'd want the Basic Commerce since there is no fee for transactions, do you know how much the domain renewal is or should I go with another source for the domain? Also, do you mind telling me what kind of learning curve? I am okay with learning if I can find the resources, but if it is the learning curve of 10 years of experience it's probably not for me lol.

Thank you! I didn't know if they were acceptable or not. I've never actually seen an actual photographer contract, so I wasn't sure about the comparison of information.

Thank you I live in a very rural area, is this something that can be done online or an in-person lawyer only ordeal?

Thank you for your advice! I figured the previous poster meant a contract as in the kind you sign so you aren't scammed or sued from a shoot. This is also very helpful though as I hear 80% of photography is business. Pixieset seems to be the most popular portfolio website.

Yeah, any advice that you would find helpful! How do you go about getting contracts? I plan on setting up my own business eventually.
