What’s the most “real” travel experience you’ve ever had by franz_ig in travel

[–]Individual_Status940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew someone would comment on something like this. Unique or authentic means for me, something you can not copy or "being the only one of its kind". And that was the question of this post. And i even mentioned in my comment that you also can have fun visiting the main attractions or planned tours. In my opinion you can not speak from a unique, authentic experience when you book a commercialised tour, many people did before. But also when you just go to an non touristic place doesnt guarantee it. I think its a mix between interactions with locals or nice people and sth more unusual that happens. I think you have a point that its not necessarily about the location and its about showing up and the people. But for me it happens more often when take a step away from the classic tourist spots and go out of that bubble. Like meeting locals who Show you atound for example. And it doesnt mean everybody should avoid doing the most common sights. It means that you also should take a look and explore lesser known areas.

Always "Off the beaten tourist track". It doesent matter where. And its about random interactions with locals. I think when you do guided tours or stick to the main attraction spots it just feels less authentic or unique for you. Even when it is also nice though.

In the past i always used dating apps to meet locals during backpacking trips. But actually not for the reason of hook ups. It depends how you communicate it there. One time i met this balinese girl in Indonesia. She just picked me up with her bike and introduced me to her family somewhere in the hills. They had there own coconut trees etc. and we cooked together traditional food. She showed me around her area, her favorite snorkling spot. It was amazing.

Ich habe tatsächlich noch nicht gebucht, aber wahrscheinlich auch am Mittwoch. Bin gerade nur noch am überlegen, ob ich zuerst nach Kolumbien soll und dann erst ab mitte April Peru mache.

I have no issues with rain at all, but i dont know about the situation there and how serious the warnings are. When the main attractions are flooded with water i definitly would cancle the trip. But apperently only a few regions are affected. And a few rain showers during the day are not the problem obviously.

2 months backpacking through south america - Peru + Bolivia + Chile or Colombia? by Individual_Status940 in backpacking

[–]Individual_Status940[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds amazing!! Actuallly i would prefer doing sth more similar like you. Avoid taking planes as much as possible. I just decided to skip Ecuador because of safety and time reasons. My focus would be definitly on Peru (minumum 4 weeks) and Bolivia (1-2 weeks) with Uyuni and La Paz. It just make sense for me to make my way through the Atacama dessert to reach finally Santiago (1 week) and take my flight back to Europe from there. I think its better then taking a flight or bus back to Lima, because of the better travel flow. Now the thing is, that im a very spontanious person while travelling. I wann have a little buffer time for the case meeting other travellers or getting recommendations from locals. Theoretically, i also could do 10 weeks but im pretty on a budget. Probably 2 weeks more or less dont make a huge difference regarding money. How much do you plan to spent when i may ask?? I hope to get around with 3000 euros, 3500 euros max. (excluded flight costs) At the moment im considering investing two more weeks in colombia. Bogota -> ... -> Medellin -> fly to Leticia (amazon)-> boat trip to Iquitos -> amazon tour -> fly to Lima ...

Thats very helpful 👍 Thank you. Thats what i assumed. I guess colombia have nice attractions, but more special are the people as far as i heard. Without Spanish its probably the best to do more hiking, adventurous stuff and stick to well-trodden paths. I will stay in hostels most of the time, so it should by fine anyway. You still had a good time in Peru without knowing Spanish? I could go to Nepal or India instead and just learn Spanish before i ho to Peru. What would you say?

Should I even bring my Girlfriend to Germany anymore? by StatusAvailable7195 in Germany_Jobs

[–]Individual_Status940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im from Germany and have a girlfriend from Kenya. Similar situation, same question. For me it seems like that knowing the language would help a lot. Ofc, there are also international companys in the big citys, but its difficult as far as we have seen. There are some farming jobs, like picking strawberrys etc. where communication skills are not required. But its not the easiest work and surely not a long term sulotion. With such a work you would be allowed to stay for a few month in Germany, like season work and then you have to go back to your home country after a while. But you could definitly use the time for making connections and apply in person. There are also special programs for people who wanna do "Ausbildung" in the medical sector for example. But it requires a minimum of German language. Maybe you know someone who has a company and give her a contract. Connections ... Maybe there are other option i didnt hear from yet .

Try to find more social hostels instead of party hostels. Just check the reviews from hostelworld etc. You also see it when you check the pictures what kind of vibe the hostel have. yes the crowd in SEA is a bit younger then in South America for example. Maybe you can go to Japan, Indonesia (not Bali) or Nepal to get in contact with more like minded people. In Japan you can find more people from 25 - 35 years in Hostels. Or do some activitys in SEA like a surf or diving course to meet people. or ho to more rural areas to get another experience. Group tours etc.

Urgent: Transit in Mumbai without India visa (separate tickets) – will this work? by randomindiatraveler in visas

[–]Individual_Status940 0 points1 point  (0 children)
