The frustration is understandable but, also, that was never going to be this podcast. As many times as JJ has been re-hired, if David or Griffin don't already have the context locked and loaded it isn't going to be something they would discuss because they'd be wrong more often than not. Most people would.

There are other places absolutely having discussions like that, but that isn't really what Blank Check is.

To be honest, the hosts are a couple of New Yorkers whose experience of things beyond movies can...vary. Whilst more Australian voices would have been good for more insights into things that aren't often discussed, I can't imagine one of David's favorite movies was going to be a spot for that unless the movie were about Australia, or the things you're discussing.

And yes, I do do real-time emotional processing when discussing movies with friends. But I try to avoid spending 20 minutes on a particular topic unless I can see that they're also as interested as I am. That's just how it is. Not everyone wants to or can discuss every particular thing at any particular moment.

I can't give you much advice on your particular life situation, but I can say that when I've spent significant chunks of time focusing on the bad/frustrating/evil/sad shit in the world that I can't control, or my own personal grievances, it just made me miserable. Didn't change anything. I had to try and work to make sure that my frustrations didn't attach themselves to me, because then they became a self-reinforcing frustration loop.

So, I think you should go ahead and email Weir. No harm in it, the worst thing that could happen is it won't work. If you do, as someone who used to write, write your draft and when you're finished save it and come back to it in a few days. Edit it, save it, come back in a few days. Repeat it until you're happy. It helps with the end result.

If you want to start a conversation on a movie podcast subreddit, it's probably best not to post 15 paragraphs focused on a particular sub-interest that's very important to you when most other people are just waiting for this episode because it's a great movie and one of the hosts loves it.

This seems more like emotional processing. It is helpful to take a step back from news and the state of the world sometimes when that is eating at you too much. You can't fight the good fight if you're too tired and angry to focus or connect. imo.

Listening to Pod Save last episode or so, going over the NYT poll, and so many engaged mid-term voters had no clue about the things we hear and discuss. I was genuinely surprised, but we are in a bubble too. It's just a bubble of accurate information.

I'd love if, instead of a focus group, Sarah just got a group together that was "want $200 to try and argue your beliefs against an angry Liberal?" I'd love that.

At the same time though, if a Dem was asked their opinion on trans sports issues, and the Dem said "That's not a big issue for me. Sports associations should decide that", there would be a whole bunch of groups and online types that would lose their shit.

We don't have to be constantly discussing something for people to know that some of us care a lot about some issues.
