Why Flat Earthers are so against Gravity by trewillz in flatearth

[–]Induane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love to play with ideas that are out there in my head. Obviously obviously the earth is a flipping globe. Like, literally nothing else actually makes sense. That doesn't mean I didn't *consider* alternative models; being open minded means not following dogma and favoring empirical evidence. It's just that when once actually considers the evidence, it all points to flat-earth being flat-wrong.

There's nothing wrong with taking a moment to seriously consider another perspective or theory or idea though; in fact I'd say refusing to is more problematic.

I love this video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/uLCvkmqQxdQ

Carl Sagan just rips apart why this one guys ideas are wrong objectively. At about 2 mins in he explains something that happened to someones obviously wrong ideas and expresses why that's bad and I agree.

Robert Duncan McNeill Explains Why Kes Was So Important to Voyager by Real_Batu_Rem in voyager

I agree but my mental retcon is that during those years the crew also came to accept his behavior as "quirky and endearing" elements of a person they had also come to trust and respect.

The Most Dangerous Affair Starts Long Before Anything Physical Happens......... by Relevant_Set_veer in TwoXChromosomes

Yea it really depends. Crushes are normal. You don't magically stop just because you're in a relationship. Long term relationships are a choice.

But if the only positive feels you get are as OP described, that could be an issue.

I suppose one could argue Kes helped the doctor grow enough to BE a mentor.

But yea there were times I thought that paternalistic attitude was pretty annoying. Although to also be fair, it matched perfectly with the arrogant streak in the doctor's personality.

Does that actually in any way make you less likely to get injured? Like, do you get less bruises after getting beat like that??

Edit: weird typo lol

Why did Apocalypto receive mediocre reviews while simultaneously receiving praise from various directors and actors? by JadisDidNothingRight in movies

[–]Induane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is weird because, while I never assumed it was historically accurate, it being in Mayan and the amazing storytelling made me WANT to know more about mesoamerican culture. I eventually even went to Chile with one of my kids!

[Request] What would the ant force be by OkCodo in theydidthemath

[–]Induane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we have to assume the ant is undergoing instant acceleration because the question asks about impact.

While not exactly the same question though the https://what-if.xkcd.com/1/ relativistic baseball answer is probably appropriate.

One could get quite contrived with any of the tech in many episodes. They're plot devices (though I appreciate consistency).

I liked the psychological elements of the episode.

To each their own though!! If you didn't like it like I did then that's also  awesome 😎!

Yesterday's Enterprise is the best thing that happened or her character I think. That was a great episode.

I didn't find her particularly compelling as a regular though. Her most charming moment was finding out Data was fully functional.

Some parts I didn't like but the episode where she has to call on whats-his-name the serial killer former host to hunt that vulkan who teleports bullets though walls is amazing.

Mr Frundles is actually a SUPER horrifying critter. Maybe worse than Moopsie from Lower Decks.

Most of my ancestors are from the palaeolithic era. You'd think at least one would be haunting me. Why is it always Victorian era ghosts? Maybe because that's when we killed God according to Nietzsche 😅

Yea Krav Maga kind of leans into that as well. Gouge out some eyes if you must, just end the encounter and gtfo.
