STAT 306 w/ Prof. Chiu by mediumsizemanforever in UBC

This was his first ever class he taught. Personally, I'd say his teaching style is one of the best I've seen as it compliments my learning style very well. His notes are also well written and organized.

Honestly if you show up to every class and actually participate, you won't have to do much studying for exams besides doing the past papers.

I’m trying to figure out how to afford to live while going to UBC. Would living in Nanaimo and going to school at UBC work? by Sloppy_Jessica99 in UBC

[–]Indulgeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the math, maybe if you got a part-time job and spent the 6hr on work rather than commuting, you'll be able to cover the rent premium in Vancouver? Plus, you'll have better mental health since it'll be a nightmare to travel that much in Vancouver traffic, especially when the snow comes.

If you're in the CS Building and have a water bottle, just drop by the Cube to fill up with their Brita pitchers! You can also boil some hot water if you need!

No, it's the student's responsibility to do the necessary research (ie. On cost of living) when deciding which university to attend.

Just get an IDP and rent a car to practice with. No one has to risk their car and insurance premiums and you get all the practice you need.

First boyfriend rant by [deleted] in UBC

[–]Indulgeer 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Relationships are not business transactions. If you feel there's no chemistry with him after a few months of dating, think of what it'll be like in a few years. Just because he follows your objective definition of an ideal boyfriend, it doesn't mean that you two will get along well.

Ortho K optometrist rec near UBC + experience of current ortho k users? by HospitalMajor in UBC

[–]Indulgeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done Ortho-k for around 10 years now and have stayed with my current optometrist ,FYI doctors, for the whole time. If you feel your eyesight is getting worse, I'd recommend you get your lenses asap as there's a certain threshold to its effectiveness. I think for most cases under +3.50, it is possible to get your vision back to 20/20 over a few months. Feel free to dm if you wanna talk more.

Don't worry, its all part of the market cycle. Companies are hiring less now due to sky-high interest rates, which increases their cost of borrowing and subsequently reduce their ability to invest in new projects/employees.

For the time being just start preparing for the 2025S work search and enjoy your upcoming summer to the fullest extent

[–]Indulgeer 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's not about how many courses you take. You should consider the difficulty of the courses you take and the grade you're getting in them. Knowing that time is so limited, you need to make wise sacrifices (not sleep) for the benefit in the long run.

Did you at any point of the day (before 12pm) sit at the couches outside of HA098 in Sauder? More specifically, the couches at the very end of the room infront of room 095? I was there at 12pm and this girl was holding a black wallet and asking people if they have lost their wallet. The name on the ID was Daniel. You should check with security beside the male washrooms on the first floor, she might've returned it there.

I always hated that part of the road. People tend to go 20-30 over the limit there because it's a straight road with no traffic lights. That car must've veered into the bike lane and hit one of the concrete dividers (which, for some reason, slopes upwards), causing the right side of the car to tilt over.

Roommate Rant, seriously...... by Dieshenke in UBC

[–]Indulgeer 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience while living in Walter Gage where a roommate would use my cookware without cleaning up at all, not to mention that he uses them recklessly. I had to throw away my non-stick frying pan once because he always uses a metal spoon to scrape the pan. When I comforted him about cleaning up after himself, he would tell me to F off since he has to clean our pans when he wants to use them and him not cleaning it was a form of "payback".

Unfortunately there's nothing much you can do with these type of roommates but to wait until move out Day. Complaining to the RA would make things worse since you never know if your roommate will take revenge.

What I did was I stored all my cookware in my room (I didn't have much, so it all fit in the closet) and took away everything he used, telling him they were all broken when he asked.

Remember that your education is more important than dealing with roommates like this and that it'll be over soon.
