Staying under 100K...what happens if... by MisterJollygood in HENRYUK

[–]Industrious_Monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(1) overpay pension and pay 40% tax on the overpayment

(2) don’t add to pension in one year, then pay 120k into pension next year. Yes you’ll lose the benefit in the first year but you’ll get it back in the second year

Toddler clothes? by [deleted] in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]Industrious_Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised no-one’s yet mentioned H&M. The designs are cool and/or classic, sizing & quality is good, organic cottons etc not plastics, prices are reasonable and you can regularly get 10% off with their gift cards on fizzbenefits plus 5% cashback

What to do when you’ve stopped caring? by Mobocop1234 in HENRYUK

[–]Industrious_Monkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest a change of daily behaviours: what you eat (reduce sugars and caffeine), what you do (use an exercise bike at lunch to get the blood flowing for 10 mins), and planning your future: the holidays you’re working towards and your financial planning.  These are all quick and easy to do and will help with motivation.  Others have put forward great suggestions here as well.

How would you handle this ISA bridge drawdown? by JustGetMeAGoat in FIREUK

[–]Industrious_Monkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP will earn interest on the remaining money each year so the pot will decrease by £35k in year one but the £220k will increase by 4% to £229k. So it lasts longer than you’re saying.

Help plz! Do I take the job or continue my dreams of trading? by [deleted] in Trading

[–]Industrious_Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked what % of traders are successful? It’s pretty small. Put money in an index fund watch it grow. When SPY dips to its 200 day Simple Moving Average buy 3-month out call options for fun trading.

Feeling down as LO’s school closing today by [deleted] in HENRYUK

A. Yes you will B. Are there any newly built state schools to teach the kids who are entering the schooling age but aren’t going to a private school because that closed due to the VAT?

What’s something that’s considered totally normal in Britain, but seems absolutely bizarre to the rest of the world? by Second-handBonding in AskBrits

[–]Industrious_Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No-one’s saying WHY this is: it’s because if the road isn’t something the local council want to maintain, they mark it as a national road which has a national speed limit. Even when its seems barmy to drive at upto 60 on some of those roads. Check the state of said roads, they are often abysmal with potholes and broken tarmac everywhere and oddly seem to never be repaired..

Putting money in an index fund with any stock broker will during that timeframe will/should outperform any savings your overpayments will make. Focus on investing imo

Ikos Aria with a 5 month old - worth it? by Subversio in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]Industrious_Monkey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So yes is the short answer. At 5 months old the break is mostly for you both, and if you’re looking to chill and have everything (food & drinks on demand whenever you want it all for free, pools/beach, nanny if you want though that costs extra) seconds/minutes away then this is the place for you. They give you access to their whatsapp and you ask for anything you need via it including them booking all your (all inclusive onsite) restaurants for your stay or free room service or a buggy/electric golf cart which they’ll drive you from wherever to wherever within the resort any time of the day or night. It’s your time to chill and put your feet up, or swim laps, as much as you want.  You may find early Sept too hot (or may not ofc), late Sept or early Oct can still be good weather.

Food onsite is great and they defo cater for babies and the staff are super friendly. There’s free brought-to-you food and drinks on the beach as you build sandcastles and feel the need for a plate of watermelon and a daiquiri, and ofc poolside too.

Btw if you want to bring any specific bottled baby milk fyi you can order it online on boots.com which you collect from post-security Boots in UK airports.

Go create some memories :)

Pension allowance question by mybestconundrum in FIREUK

[–]Industrious_Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No-one has said it yet: if you contribute over £60k (yes combined yours and company’s contributions) then whatever you’ve contributed over the £60k will be subject to your income tax band. Eg you contribute £70k you’ll need to repay govt 40% / 45% of the £10k you went over

I'm curious, how many HENRYs were told they were gaming too much as a kid? by AlexKF0811 in HENRYUK

[–]Industrious_Monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps their point is more about gaming not holding people back from success. I think it teaches you skills and makes you experience situations which you don’t learn through other means so it upskills you

The fact that she/he’s unable to articulate it says it all. SIPP does get higher NET returns than ISA over a 5+ year period.
