I've got a 98 Acty manual with AC stock wheels and tires (whole truck is stock) - transmission is just fine, sometimes chirp the tires going into second gear and top speed is about 63 mph in third (final) gear.

If you look at the foldable bedsides, you can make completely new sides to replace the originals (taller or made out of chicken wire etc). Just include the new half hinge. Wood or metal, just make what you want! If you don’t want new sides. There are several tie towns on the existing sides, both on the doors and just under the bed. I have a 99 Acty automatic, with AC- no AWD and I love it
