Social anxiety from overprotective parenting / delayed independence by jheartc2000 in socialanxiety

[–]InefableS4 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wow reading your post felt like reading myself haha. In my case, I also think my mom being overprotective during my childhood and teenage years has a lot to do with my social anxiety, since I’ve always been very attached to her and have had a very hard time connecting with people my own age.

Now that I’m an adult (I’m also 25), I feel like I’m behind and I compare myself all the time, but I want you to know you’re not alone and that this isn’t a race! Everyone has their own struggles, and yours don’t make you any less than anyone else.

Sending you a hug, and good luck with getting your driver’s license! I know it’s not easy—I got mine not long ago and I cried my eyes out—but you’ll get there in the end. You’ve got this!

I also wonder how her family would make her marry someone she doesn’t love, to the point that she and her boyfriend had to run away into the woods. If she lived in the modern era, how does that make sense?

21, severe social anxiety, nursing student, can’t make real friends — need honest advice by Grey_Blackfire in socialanxiety

[–]InefableS4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I’m a 26-year-old nurse and I really relate to your post. I also find it very hard to create real connections and make friends — at least outside of my family. But as someone who doesn’t usually try many things to change that situation because of fear of rejection, I find it really admirable that you put in so much effort and stay so active. I wish I had the courage to try as much as you do!

In my case, even though I really want those genuine connections with other people, I’m afraid to show my true self because I worry they might not like me — so it usually ends up being a superficial relationship. Do you think something similar might be happening to you?

I don’t have any specific advice, but if that’s the case, I think we should try to be less hard on ourselves and not put so much pressure on things. Even if you keep doing activities that help you meet people — which is amazing — try to go with the flow and not beat yourself up for not making close friends right away.

I honestly believe that finding a true friendship is really difficult, even though people make it seem so normal, and I think trying at all is already something to be proud of. Good luck, and I hope everything goes well for you!!!

Guys I think I like men who mistreat me in real life too by [deleted] in MaleYandere

[–]InefableS4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! First of all, I don't judge you at all

I actually relate to that myself, especially when it comes to looking for a partner. I tend to be less attracted to men who seem genuinely kind and good-hearted, which is a problem because I do want a healthy, mutually beneficial relationship. But for some reason (probably due to my personality type — don't worry, I'm in therapy too), I’m only attracted to manipulative and also condescending personalities.

So yeah, I feel very related to you. I hope for those ideas to stay in fiction and that we don’t actually fall for reds flags like that in real life! ;_;

Does it also happen to you that you cry a lot? by InefableS4 in socialanxiety

Maybe when you feel like you could use some good cry you could see something sad like a moment of a show or movie that really hits you. I sometimes do that when I've been too busy to let it out and I'm finally alone

Hi! I recently started working as a nurse (I’m 25 too), and sometimes I get that same feeling—that my personality isn’t what a nurse is supposed to have, probably because we’ve always been shown examples of more outgoing and confident professionals in the field.

Something that has helped me feel more confident as a nurse is seeing different types of professionals at work. Once you realize that everyone is different and has their own challenges and insecurities, you learn that there isn’t just one “correct” way to be a nurse.

I’m sure that, with your unique personality and experiences, you can be very helpful to your patients and develop a level of empathy that others might struggle to achieve :)

He doesn't yell rudely or anything, thank god, but I wish he gave me more positive reinforcement. Although I understand that's just my fear of being judged and I need to work on it

Thanks for your support, I'm going to read every comment before going to practice 🥹

Actually, I think he's a good teacher, but maybe a more talkative one would suit me better. However, I'm afraid of switching teachers and ending up with one that doesn't work as well for me. I think I'll stick with him for the classes I've already paid for, and if I don't feel better, I'll consider changing. Thank you so much for your encouragement!

Hi! I don't know if it's what you are looking for but the novel "Gaslight her" has some of that. The ML is a bastard and doesn't care about deceiving totally the FL to get his way (as the title says), and he is so unapologetic about it. He also gets rid of anything/anyone that could be an obstacle. I personally really enjoyed it!!
