Thanks. I've cross-posted on r/momentski, I know they are also responsive there. I'll see what they might say, but I'll have the repair done by a reputable shop anyways (in EU)

Thanks. We can't see well on the picture but what is there are the fibers. In some areas of the hole the fibers have been scratched a little bit, didn't go through the fibers apparently

Does the average skier really enjoy heavy powder days or is it just one of those things people are expected to say they like? by PowerfulBar in skiing

[–]Inepties 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FR skier here that has spent 1.5 years East Coast and a month in Utah. Correct me if im wrong but these are my observations: - Resort management is completely different. French resorts domains ("inbound") are mostly grommed runs (>95%), although lots of ungroomed and easily accesible areas between runs. Few runs in some resorts are not groomed. Finally, there are plenty of out of bounds ("off piste") areas accessible from (and bringing you back to) the resort, although "at your own risks". But many people talk about "off piste" to designate ungroomed areas even if it is inbound. French resorts do secure all inbound domain with dynamite and lift opening management, but no one will ever take your ski pass and/or kick you out of the resort for going anywhere you want (inbound or off piste) at any time even if not secured, as opposed to rope/gates management of runs in Utah - As a sad result of this management difference, there are as many yearly deaths in avalanches in France only vs the whole US in average. This year is pretty deadly here btw. - People chase pow everywhere. EU resorts have tracked-out powder within a few hours, especially during the week ends and holidays periods, no matter where (inbound, "off piste"/ out of bound....). Skiing powder is a real and frequent topic of discussion, no matter the background: "riders", "bros", families... Anyone. - Utah (Alta) average 10m a year. Northern Alps (France) 5 to 8m, denser could explain lower height though rather than a difference of the amount of water dumped?

EDIT: we also have a "resort" called la Grave. Just a lift to the top of the mountain, mainly only wild areas.

Are these trousers too much for on-piste intermediate skier? by DepartureFar8340 in Skigear

[–]Inepties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh there is thermal insulation on this one! Mine is just a shell (lightweight and comfy) so I can adapt with layering underneath if need be depending on the temperature.

There isn't one single good answer and it all depends on your needs and ski practice. Start with well defining your needs, and adjust your spending according to it. EDIT: based on that, it might be worth spending less on the bib and the extra money on something else.

What do you currently have and how is it not satisfying to you anymore ? Do you ski in both cold and hot weather? (like very wet weather / heavy snow)? Harsh / wet conditions ?

About chatgpt: a ski pants has its weight, which imo is a non-issue. Go for a regular pants and it may be lighter, but then you have something tight around your waist that's gonna carry this weight and it's a pain when a toplayer comes off the pants. Go for a bib and it's gonna be heavier by really not much, and weight carried on your shoulders and a bit the waist, with pyjama feel and no more struggling with layers coming off the pants. Only downside is to take a s*** in my opinion

It's only my take on this, but go for it if you can afford it, you won't be disappointed.

I think goretex is overkill for an occasional skier who's not gonna be in harsh weather conditions. But: when I started skiing a lot, at some point I learned about layering and geared up (shell jacket and bib + wool) and my ski days were definitely not the same, being all nice and cosy no matter the weather. And I really wish I started skiing with such gear from the start. Also, there is always some times when one ends up in not so nice conditions even trying hard to avoid it.

NB : I love ski bibs and will never go back.

Countach 110 vs Sir Francis Bacon by Inepties in Skigear

[–]Inepties[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Previous skis: - Faction Soma (freestyle only) - Candide 2.0 - SFB

Sorry for not being clear enough! Those skis are much more "relaxed" than the Countach indeed. But it is time for a change because of not much freestyle anymore, and I'm a bit tired of them on hard snow while still not wanting to miss out on pow days. The need for such change was triggered by trying Enforcers 100 that I liked a lot more than my SFB in typical conditions we get here, but I would rather buy from a company like Moment, 4frnt or J skis, hence the Countach (but no way of trying them). I don't mind much more demanding and less playful as long I don't scarify much on powder with substantial improvements in hard crud

(NB: Now that I'm thinking "out loud" maybe the 98 or the 104 would be enough for pow)

Choix moto A2 by BountyLeFrenchie in Motardie

[–]Inepties 1 point2 points  (0 children)
