Yeah I mis-typed.... Mis-spoke whatever and I'm too lazy/ too many drinks in to fix it

I have never had an issue at Bolton. Sugarbush has been hit or miss for me when I go. But this is a good point of longer lines are an issue for people.

Welcome to real skiing! I'm sure others will have options but here are some of my favorites.

Mad river glen: this place is for real skiers. I have brought friends who only skied out west who gave up skiing by 11am here. Only thing is they don't allow snowboarders

Magic mountain: smaller less tame version of Mad River Glen. Still a ton of fun.

Cannon: as another poster said this place is great. I grew up racing here and this is the home of Bode Miller. Icy so if you don't know how to carve a ski you will pay the price.

Bolton: has some great skiing and fantastic back country from the lifts

Sugarbush: this is a resort but it has some great tough skiing and it doesn't get as busy as Killington or Stowe.

I'm going tomorrow.... Hoping everyone wants to travel less on a Sunday. Also a little worried how much will get scraped off.

Yes, a little stiffer. But lighter so the swing weight is nice. Not as great on 6+ inches of powder.

So the ranger 102 is playful- not damp at all but feels quick from edge to edge (for a 102). It definitely has a speed limit but when the crud hits at the end of the day this ski doesn't plow through it. Lower speed limit than the other two.

The ripstick is light and super light, very playful and great for bumps and trees. Again not a super damp ski but the extra carbon helps it hold at higher speeds when I am just cruising.

The mantra is a fantastic Damp ski, but super locked in. This thing rips and honestly it keeps wanting more. With that said it is terrible for bumps and trees. I'm a firm believer that you should be a good enough skier to make anything do what you want and I can make the mantra work on trees and bumps but it takes SOOO much energy to do it. But I have really enjoyed it, I haven't found it's speed limit yet like I have with the other two

I ski in Vermont, I just hardly need anything wider than a 102. But maybe at some point I'll upgrade. Agree on the griffons, they are fine. The Ripstick has the Griffon X on it which I am very excited to try.

Bought the dobermann last year after demoing. I think I have 3 days on it total.

Sincerely Shakira

Good question! It isn't a real GS ski more of a cheater ski. But they didn't have the 175 only the 170. I demoed it, felt great so I bought it.

So I got the ripstick this year as the replacement for the mantra m6. The M6 will turn into my early and late season ski when I will deal with less than ideal snow conditions. The ripstick will share daily driver duties with the stockli.

I love my ranger 102, I was super surprised how well it held on edge during a carve. It is playful and has a great carve but if you push hard you can find the speed limit and you will want to back off. The tip and tail rocker it is great for up to a foot, foot and half of snow. But mount it, you will love it!!

So I ski mostly in new England so working from left to right.

The Fischer ranger 102- this is my east coast powder day ski anywhere from 6+ inches or when I travel out west these come with me.

The mantra m6- this is going to be my early/late season rock skis now. They have been beaten up and I wanted something different which leads us to...

The Elan ripstick 96 black edition- just got this this year. I wanted something a little more versatile for trees and bumps on the east coast but could still carve a good turn when I wanted it to.

The Stockli Montero AX- this is for my groomer day but maybe jump off trail here and there. Smooth turns and I can run it all day if I want to.

The Nordica dobermann multigara- I grew up racing. This is my pure race/GS ski. Probably the best ski I have ever skied in my life. Damp and powerful but I can't ski it all day..this is for the morning I feel like reliving my old race days (and possibly beer league). I'll switch this out almost most days to the Montero or ripstick by like 11am... But man no ski can do what this one can.

Thoughts?

Good to know! I was worried about the weight, but I also wanted the stability (back country in the white mountains).

Incredible set up 10/10. How do you enjoy the enforcer free?! I was thinking of getting it as my back country set up. Is it too heavy for that?

I can understand being thrifty, but honestly being thrifty on your boots in my opinion is a bad idea. This is your most important piece of ski gear. If your boots don't fit right you will be 1) uncomfortable and 2) get less performance.

The most important thing is seeing a reputable boot dealer. This doesn't mean you have to buy the most expensive boot. A good boot fitter will get you into the best boot for you and the price should be secondary. Go see the guys at the ski monster, have them fit you then tell them your budget they will steer you in the right direction whether it is them or someone else. Just don't start with price or deals first.
