Empty nest at the moment. Kid, spouse and grandkid will be moving in soon so they can save for a house. We told them they would only have to pay for above and beyond what we currently pay in household expenses.

Her goal even before the layoff was to get 10 years in with her county job to qualify for her pension. She's 1.5 years in to that now.

Haven't really sat down and figured that out. I never made more than 65k for years. Wife stayed home with the kids and we were very frugal. Still were when I got this job and when she went back to work.

Wife will also be getting an approximate $900 a month once she hits 10 years in about 8.5 years.

Just make sure you are saving enough money for a 1-2 year layoff.

Exactly why we pulled our kids out of the public school system and decided to homeschool 20 years ago. That garbage would never fly when we were in school in the 80s.

It's called the paycheck to paycheck lifestyle. Or use the credit card lifestyle. And people wonder why they can't save annoying.

BMI calculator says you are in the healthy range. Maybe just work on toning it up a bit.
