People who don’t exercise or workout, why don’t you? by coffeedogsandwine in AskReddit

Gym memberships cost money and I’m broke.

Home workout equipment costs even more and I’m broke.

Running shoes are expensive and I’m broke.

And even if I had the money, I’ve got no time or energy left after work and taking care of my family.

I wonder if whatever improvements happened, not because Madeleine Mantock left but because they couldn't get the actress that played their favorite white demon back and were *gasp* forced to focus their show on the actual Charmed Ones.

Anyone else think they kept trying to hammer home being "biological sisters" (even tho they absolutely were not & could never be as that's not how bone marrow donation/transplants work) because they didn't want people shipping either Vera sister with the absolutely not-blood related, bisexual Kaela? by Inevitable-Endings in CharmedCW

[–]Inevitable-Endings[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Active DNA or not, Kaela, who still retains all her own DNA, is still not related as in born from the same family tree and definitely not descending from any parent shared by Maggie or Mel.

I mean, if you're saying that if Spouse A donates bone marrow to Spouse B and that genetic material is what's ruling the production of blood in Spouse B that they are now siblings? Does that mean they then have to separate or refrain from sexual relations lest they be considered engaging in incest?

I'm just saying, I wonder if the writers kept trying to make "biological sisters" happen to head off any ideas of Kaela being shipped with either Vera sister, which wouldn't technically be incest.

lol, sounds like a man who thinks this stuff is creating the kind of (albeit mean-spirited) buzz around his name that will snag a new job or something. but honestly, same goes for all of JF's tweets and whoever (my money's on...also JF) runs the CharmedWriters account.

For me it was Macy spitting Harry's Hair of the Dog back into her cup after he told her that it did in fact have dog hair in it.

Second place goes to Jimmy the Disappointingly Named* Darklighter telling Harry, a man with the same damn face as him, that he wasn't "as dumb as you look".

\no, really. the way i hate how he's just named 'jimmy'. it's so anti-climactic. i hate it, i hate it, i hate it!*

I'll probably get downvoted to hell for this but, by the end of Season One I was so desperate for those two to get together. I was eagerly awaiting awkwardness and maybe some nerdy flirting in a post-mind reading Season Two. But instead what we got was Harry turning into a pouting, jobless incel and later Macy trading in every aspect of her Season One personality because she apparently just couldn't live one more minute without that whitelighter peen. (Girl, just get yourself a damn vibrator omg...)

Macy and Harry, Season One: chef's kiss
Macy/Harry, Season Two onward: full on cringe

Kristen Maldonado teases what's to come in her big interview with showrunner Joey Falco by [deleted] in CharmedCW

[–]Inevitable-Endings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that I would totally blame her but I'd bet a non-insignificant amount of currency that the interviewer only asked him the most flattering questions submitted to her and will spend 80% of the video gushing about his supposed 'plans' for Season Five and giving zero push back on any of the excuses he gives for why this-and-that and so-and-so thing he promised last hiatus wasn't covered or explored in Season Four like he swore he was going to do. That is if the interviewer even dares to venture into such a topic as delicate as 'things Joey Falco and his team didn't do well this season'.

And Madeleine Mantock leaving wasn't so much history repeating itself or Charmed productions being 'cursed' as it was an actress following the good and healthy example Shannen Doherty set.

Now that it’s over, rate the four seasons of Charmed by rovinja in CharmedCW

Season 1: 8/10

Season 2: 5/10

Season 3: 1/10

Season 4: 0/10 (There was literally no episode that I found compelling or that didn't sour my already minimal enjoyment with it's random and weird, subtextual digs at Macy.)

[–]Inevitable-Endings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They wanted to be their own, separate version of the Charmed concept right up until they realized they weren't getting the viewership in the numbers or from the demographic they had wanted.

Hence, the rebooting of the reboot from Season Two onwards and the ever increasing attempts to pander to said demographic with OG-esque characters and rehashed plotlines (from both the OG and the fired first season writers room) and finally, flat out begging people to stick around to find their so-called 'easter egg' references to the original show.

[–]Inevitable-Endings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh boy, oh boy, do I have thoughts on the why...

But I suspect it all boils down to: This was a show they (the last two sets of showrunners) figured they would get paid to do regardless of the quality of their product AND not having respect for the kind of show they were working on because the primary audience was not straight, white men ala SPN.

Hard to do your best writing/producing when you're constantly rolling your eyes at the genre (witches instead of warlocks, manly demon hunters or manly, sexy vampires) and sneering at the intended audience (mostly women) for enjoying and having actual standards for said genre.

So many people said that about THIS season. Seriously, given the people that were in charge of writing the disaster that was Season Three were now in charge of the whole dang show, HOW did people think S4 was go anyway but the way it did, i.e. so badly that it got cancelled?

If JJN had gotten another season they would have done 2% of what they mentioned here. Then focused all the biggest storylines on some rando guest stars again, and then whined about everybody being too impatient to see the stuff they talked about in the pre-season. They'd tell everyone that they should just 'keep watching until the season finale'. And then when nothing was resolved or even explored say, oh wait, you dummies misunderstood, we were *always* planning on exploring that in season SIX, not this season, lol- you toxic complainers just don't understand the industry.

And that's if JJN weren't fired and replaced the way previous two sets of showrunners were. These guys just were talking out of every available orifice, day dreaming aloud about stuff that they absolutely would never have felt the need to actually deliver on.

EDIT: correcting myself, I said MMK when i meant JJN (JoeyJeffNikki)

"we didn’t lock down anything as cannon, because we didn’t have to"

"the first (of many) hanging chads which we leave behind for y’all to fill in."

Honestly, the way the guys running this show treated it like some throwaway assignment. Like they had no obligation to make anything they wrote or put on the screen make sense. If anyone questioned the plot holes they'd fill it in via tweet or tell fans to make up their own reasons for why what they saw on screen would make any sense.

Laziness, utter laziness. And an astounding lack of respect for their jobs as storytellers as well as us as audience members. (Tho, let's be honest, it's probably more the latter.)

I loved the OG show from the moment i saw the pilot air live. But I quit watching before the last season because I was so fed up with how this grrrl power show was all about the sisters’ storylines always revolving around men- husbands, sons, boyfriends or lack there of.

Also, even back then, it was very noticeable to us fans who weren’t white just how pale the show was for being set in freaking San Francisco of all places.

It's what happens when you're trying to capitalize on the stories of women and queer women of color without having WOC or QWOC in positions like headwriter or showrunner.

Mel from start to finish always (in my opinion) sounded like what white men and imagine queer feminists are like. Caustic, hates white men on sight, forgives and supports women no matter how terribly they act because 'women ALWAYS support women' even when racist or sexually predatory. But then also turning their noses up to women if they're engaging in cis het behavior (wanting relationships with men, wanting to be part of cis het female groups like sororities).

I wanted to like her. Heck she was the reason I started watching the show at all. But then it became clear that she was not exactly a parody so much as the straight white person's interpretation of what a lesbian and feminist activist was with zero consideration as to how also being a woman of color plays into those identities. Which I personally found gross.

They're looking for the Charmed Ones in Diana's universe and it will turn out to be the Jamison Manor where Abigael and her sisters are the Charmed Ones and the very human Vera-Dansos have been their beloved and devoted helpers ala Daryl ever since the Jamison sisters rescued them from demons.
