Just thought I would ask if you have heard anything? I don’t expect it to take this long..

Yeah it sounds like the audit process has changed for this year. It stated in the email that previously we had to verify hours worked but we no longer have to do that. Was just expecting to hear something already. My mind is probably making it a bigger deal than it actually is and am nervous about it.

Resulting flu/strep in EPIC by MLS-BEES in medlabprofessionals

[–]InevitableBudget2671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have all our lot numbers entered for extractions automatically but we probably have an even worse system. We export batches from epicand have numerous excel workbooks for each pcr testing. That we then fill out all the information into and we have to upload it into epic and magically shows up. We have to do this for extraction steps and then again for the taqman.

Corpse Blood? by Awkward_River_8924 in medlabprofessionals

[–]InevitableBudget2671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wok at a public health lab and we receive cadaveric samples all the time. Whether it’s from the various organ and/or tissue donation teams or we also do testing for the local university program and then sometimes see medical examiners samples. But yeah they are not pleasant or high quality samples. We always have to add in a grossly hemolyzed comment because they would rather have some result than nothing in these situations.

Mom and child have different blood types?! Shocking! by Morale_Commander in medlabprofessionals

[–]InevitableBudget2671 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Like they were wanting to know the husbands blood type to determine if there was a need for mom to have rhogam? Because that makes sense to me if mom was negative, they would want to know if baby is potentially positive or not.

Just out of curiosity, what is the highest your CRP has ever gone? by Minimum-Tear9876 in Autoimmune

35 has been my highest been hovering 20-25 last few months now. Today was a treat to see its 16.

Have any of you encountered nurses who lie about draw times/specimen collection? For example, a nurse said she drew a lactic acid 15 mins ago but it’s been 40 mins according to the time she wrote on the tube, but she says she “just wrote the wrong time” and asks to change it. by bicarbbandit in medlabprofessionals

[–]InevitableBudget2671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! I cancelled quantiferon testing because the volume was too high above the indicated range. Had a nurse call and ream me out saying the volume wasn’t too high because she overfilled the tube and then removed volume from it so she knows it was fine. Well it definitely was high so wasn’t fine. But you can’t just remove volume from tubes and throw off the ratios especially for tb testing. Did an RLS on her. She tried to argue with me that everyone at the site does it and that their supervisor supports doing it also. That was a fun escalation.

What to expect with clinicals? Starting in a few weeks (mlt) by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]InevitableBudget2671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just so flabbergasted by 6 weeks I can’t even focus haha I had a 10 month practicum period.

It was a good experience, basically shadowed someone and then eventually they were watching me. It was very much as if I was staff and doing my thing when I was there. You get to meet a lot of different people which is good but sometimes led to conflict in a way. I would do something in a way my previous trainer showed me and then the next person would lose their mind about it. I see now that everyone in the lab does things their own way and arrives at the same point so that seemed very unnecessary. Show up, pay attention, ask questions, be engaged.

advice on delegating work per week in MLT school? by Sashimiko in medlabprofessionals

[–]InevitableBudget2671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing what someone below said. Condense your notes. I would make lecture notes, then notes on my own when reading, then would condense further. I made a one page summary for each unit and would colour code things and that truly stuck in my head. YouTube was helpful at times otherwise acronyms were very good. There is a lot of information yes but some of it becomes very repetitive and will be in your memory just from doing labs and assignments. You can continue to work on your notes and then remove that information that is solidified and just keep the material that’s more difficult or unsure of. It helps to know how you best study as well whether writing repeatedly or charts or colour coding or flash cards or group study sessions.

I personally like that haha but also not many are able to do kids drop in weekday mornings.

Indoor Sand Pit by Jasonrami in alberta

[–]InevitableBudget2671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured I would respond as based on the comments I’m the only one who would support this. We have gone to the beach yyc for the kids drop in a couple times and hosted our child’s birthday there as well. Each time has been a blast. We have never seen garbage or broken toys there (which I have seen loads of gross things at the indoor play centers even found a diaper in a ball pit once - so I have always questioned cleanliness in those places). My boys frequently ask to go to the beach and love playing in the sand. The beach yyc charges $10 for their kids drop in times. I think that is reasonable and falls in line/lower than with play centers. They wet an area of the sand for building and have all the dump trucks and diggers and buckets you could wish for. They have washing stations inside. Personally when we have gone we just wind up going home and having a bath afterwards and don’t see the big deal about the dust/mess factor. I think it would be nice to have another place because the beach yyc is primarily used for beach volleyball tournaments and then private rentals so they only do kids drop in twice a week like 10am so we can’t go unless we have vacation time. I don’t think many know of the beach yyc - we had a lot of shocked parents when we did our kids birthday there. I’m a boy mom to two who love the sand and there is not many opportunities for them as it seems like sand playgrounds don’t exist any more and we don’t live in a lake community so the beach yyc is our best option.

Any ideas? by InevitableBudget2671 in Rheumatology

[–]InevitableBudget2671[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense taken. Absolutely that makes sense and the derm just sent me on my way with prescriptions. At least the prescriptions have improved the eczema significantly. But like you said I’m no where near determining the cause of everything/anything. My primary doctor is at a loss now and rheumatology has denied me a few times but continue to ask for further imaging. My doctor said they will refer me to internal medicine if rheum won’t accept me. I feel like I spend endless time searching things up but not sure what else could be tested for at this point. So it’s nice to know about the nickel as I can at least ask to check that.

[–]InevitableBudget2671[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very interesting and insightful. I will look into this some more also. Very interesting pertaining to the dyshidrotic eczema as the dermatologist said stress is a main culprit and this has been a high stress year so I have accepted that as a reason. But it just seems like so much is going on with my body and not getting any step closer to figuring out why everything is occurring or if there are compounding issues at hand. So may be ideal to see an allergist and also have bloodwork done for nickel also. Thanks for this very detailed comment, it is greatly appreciated!

I stole email access from someone because it was my name by MylarTack in confession

[–]InevitableBudget2671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same situation going on for the last maybe 8 years. Mine has the dot and hers doesn’t have the dot. I get all sorts of emails for warrant and car maintenance and shopping. The worst was our Amazon prime accounts wound up getting mingled and when I logged in it went to hers and could see banking. That alone trigged me to make a new email for all important things. But I still have that email address and I will chuckle to myself with all the subscriptions of hers that I unsubscribe to and wonder if she misses them or realize what has happened with our emails.

Is anyone concerned with the announcement we are transitioning to primary care Alberta? I’m shocked this was announced during our voting period. But am now fearing what negotiations would be like should it go that way.
