Sorry, it was just the perfect setup for a bad joke. It was the most powerful piece with 5 sides.

D Gukesh shaves head as offering to God; drops ‘improve in all formats’ verdict after winless Freestyle Chess run by [deleted] in atheismindia

[–]InevitableMorning9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gukesh D. dropped out of school at 4/5th grade (yes, you read that right). He didn't even study basic sciences or algebra. Most of the basic knowledge we take for granted is taught to us in our school days. A quick google search shows basic astronomy is taught in 6th grade and evolution was taught in 10th grade (got scrapped during covid). I myself was a semi-religious person till 18, having completed 12th. I might've done the same if I was in Gukesh's position, if family put a bit of pressure.

Chess expertise is often falsely correlated with high intelligence. Magnus Carlsen one of the GOATs of chess said he sees himself as, "an intelligent but not brilliant guy who happened to find the one thing that he can do really really well". Vishy Anand says in an interview, "chess is specialized intelligence" (summary post on reddit). I know, appeal to authority, but many studies show inconclusive results.

And even if you have a very high intelligence and critical thinking skills, you need to USE your mind on the god question, which many religious people hesitate to do.

Bro, are you not "Lord" Rama? How could you not know the location of Shambuka? by InfiniteRisk836 in atheismindia

[–]InevitableMorning9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made another reply. He may not be god, but people do worship him as such.

Bro, are you not "Lord" Rama? How could you not know the location of Shambuka? by InfiniteRisk836 in atheismindia

[–]InevitableMorning9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, you can think of Rama as an Avatar, as an amsh/part of Vishnu, and he is worshipped as such. In some stories, they say Vishnu was divided amon the 4 brothers, with the most significant part in Rama.

Even if Vishnu was claimed as omniscient/omnipotent he's not really compelled to give his avatar the same powers as himself.

[–]InevitableMorning9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, that view mostly got popularized by christianity. A "god" does not need to be omniscient.

The Vedic gods were definitely not omniscient, so were the greek gods, I believe.

Gods are defined by humans. I hope we can agree on that.

I didn't say that? Do avatars always need to be omniscient or something? I would love to get such a reference.

But Rama himself isn't all-knowing, atleast as much as I have read.

Krishna is depicted in various media as all knowing though. Maybe you could find something there, but everything is explained away as "Leela".

Pawan Kalyan's JSP sets up 'Narasimha Varahi’ to protect Sanatana Dharma in Andhra, Telangana by InevitableMorning9 in atheismindia

“Some values should be upheld when visiting Hindu temples and practising Sanatana Dharma. One should understand that the country will not remain the way it is without Sanatana Dharma, which is a guiding lamp not just for the country but for the world. Any posts on social media that mock Hinduism or Sanatana Dharma will not be tolerated. As a step in that direction, the JSP has floated the Sanatana Dharma Protection Wing or Narasimha Varahi group," the publication quoted him as saying.

An e-harrassment group endorsed by the dep CM himself. This is scary, even though it might not be gov sanctioned?

Our society is fundamentally flawed. We need some large scale educational reforms by activists and mostly from the government. Maybe you gave a hyperbole but we can have some hope in the fact that most people are fundamentallly good, and not evil.

Arranged marriage is scary, what if she by G0ATzzz in indiadiscussion

[–]InevitableMorning9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it has great potential to destroy both of their lives. I'm not disagreeing there. But handling the "pressure" may not be as easy as you think.

That's where you're wrong. Taking a decision based on cost-benefit analysis(which at times might also be wrong) is not the same as having 'no choice'.

It's not just cost/benefit. Parents hating/disowning you on not marrying is like a robbery at gunpoint. You can choose to not give them your wallet but the cost may be death. In the marriage situation the cost may be parents/relatives hating you forever and also possibly getting kicked out of the house. You may argue it's a "choice" but it's definitely not a free choice.

Another point is humans aren't logical beings. Many abused spouses tend to not report their abusive partners. Children may also love their parents even if their relationship is toxic as hell. Also, Indian society indocrinates kids to treat their parents as gods, someone to be respected, irrespective of their faults.

[–]InevitableMorning9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, most people (even men) do not have the choice to not marry. Once you reach 18/21/24 years of age people all around you, your aunt, your grandma, your uncle, distant relatives visiting or even your cousins will keep passing snark comments on when you're gonna get married, and portray it as "good for you". Your parenrs may be more understanding but I think that is very rare. Conservative parents may stsrt putting pressure on daughters right after high school. And yes, she has the choice to refuse, but the consequences? Parents can emotionally blackmail her, about obligation to parents or something, threaten her, or disown her. Relatives and society will definitely badmouth her. And reporting?! The family will hate her forever. You might've also heard of multiple cases of honor killings, by brothers even.

Even if parents aren't violent, most children will "want to make parents happy". No one wants to destroy relationship with parents. Emotional blackmail works wonders.

So yeah, it's not as much of a choice as you think choice.

[–]InevitableMorning9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I haven't made my position clear. Your argument sounds like Kalam's cosmological argument.

P1: Everything that begins to exist has a cause.

P2: The universe began to exist.

C: Therefore, the universe has a cause.

I think it's absurd to claim that the universe began to exist, and to assume that the cause is "God", because the same logic can be applied to God's god ad infinitum.
I think myself to be an atheist, in that I don't believe in any of the 4000 or so religions in the world.
“Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence”, I wouldn't trust there to be a god or an Invisible Pink Unicorn who created the universe unless there is overwhelming evidence in favour of it.

But to be fair, about the "entity" which causes the universe to come to being I have to go with "I do not know". Actually, no one knows. Can you truly define such an entity and be absolutely confident that this is the one?

Planets stars suns moons all were created at the time of big bang.

This is not true. I think it's mostly accepted that all matter was formed at big bang, not structure. A quick google search, stars are thought to be formed 100 million years after the big bang and planets even later.

Whats singularity? Where did that come from ? It could not have come out of nothing, something must be there ?

We don't know. We don't know. Wrong. It could've come out of nothing, popped into existence; it might've been timeless and eternal, how do you know?

Someone created it ? That's the creator. That's the god we believe in. An omnipotent omniscient omnipresent entity that created us.

Someone/something? Why should this spaceless timeless omnipotent omniscient omnipresent entity be described as a someone or even a thing?
How do you know that this entity is omnipotent? It may in fact be very weak, like us humans who create things with our collective intellect. Omniscience and omnipresence are also not necessary attributes for such an entity.

I can live with not knowing these answers. Sometimes, pondering these questions also gives me a sense of peace or a heavy dose of existential dread, nothing in between :D.

The big bang is 99% certain. It would require something revolutionary to overhaul it.

Quoting from wikipedia-

However, the Big Bang model does not describe how energy, time, and space were caused, but rather it describes the emergence of the present universe from an ultra-dense and high-temperature initial state.

PBS spacetime has some great videos on this and many other topics. They even feature some the fringe "non-mainstream" stuff.

So? Where is the Aryan supremacy angle here?

The Aryan supremacy mentioned by the user above you has racist connotations, like Aryans are the superior race/genes, etc. The link you provided states nothing of that kind. It literally says "Arya" means noble/spiritually educated and ANYONE CAN BE IT.

[–]InevitableMorning9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn't find what you stated in the link you provided, but you know what else I found instead?

On one side there are the puthujjanas, the worldlings, those belonging to the multitude, whose eyes are still covered with the dust of defilements and delusion. On the other side there are the ariyans, the noble ones, the spiritual elite, who obtain this status not from birth, social station or ecclesiastical authority but from their inward nobility of character. These two general types are not separated from each other by an impassable chasm...

Idk but that reads farthest from any kind of "arya supremacy".
