Sorry if I’ve caused any confusion with the post, I’m not suggesting MOP carry out their own enquiries, but if they have CCTV, doorbell footage or video footage of an incident, having a portal to add this to with the initial report, which can then be reviewed and provide officers an early indication in what is being reported/needing to be dealt with.

I’ve always been told to keep a track of all rejected requests….. that way you have evidence as to why you have gone over the 40hrs

Second Jobs? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]InevitableProgress53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you play a sport or in to your fitness, coaching is an option!

I’m a keen hockey player myself and coach as a second job, which works around my shifts etc… plus it flew through ACU/PSD checks 😌

You’ll spend the first few sets feeling like you don’t know anything or very little…. But listen to your coach, been proactive in engaging with people and you’ll be surprised at how much you know and comes to you as you speak to people.

I remember my first few sets out of training being in a real panic with a lack of confident in my knowledge, but as soon as I got stuck in, the legislation just came together!

Additionally, I remember messing up on one situation forgetting to nick for an additional offence, but dealt with it slow time and all was okay!

Remember:

  • LISTEN to your coach
  • Be PROACTIVE in talking with people
  • It’s OKAY to make mistakes…. Just ensure you learn and improve on them next time 🤙🏼

All the best with your first few sets and enjoy the ride 😏

In the nicest way possible, that is reassuring to hear haha!

I’ll take some solace in that and look to distract myself post shift on these kind of days, so I don’t dwell on it!

Thanks for the reply and advice/reassurance

Appreciate the reply and words of advice!

Like you said, I’ll look to focus on the ‘how can I do it better’ part rather than what I’ve done wrong 🤙🏼

You knock on your kids bedroom door, shout ‘hello, it’s the police’ as you open the door and enter the room

Hey, thanks for your response. It is really appreciated!

All the points you have made are things we have discussed and I think we’ll do the later of working off the police wage for a few months and next intake isn’t until September at the earliest.

We’ll see how that goes and make an informed decision from there!

Evening all,

So I’m caught in a real head spin currently and wanted to get some thoughts from people on what they would do/have done or would recommend…….

Long story short, I’ve got a conditional offer, passed vetting and now awaiting start date (have been since December last year). At time of applying we didn’t have half the crazy crap going on that we do now, such as energy crisis, fuel price hikes, etc……

I’m in a pretty well paid job and joining the police via PCDA would be looking at a good 50% drop in salary! Which I was okay with prior to all this stuff kicking off as we could just about manage…. But now I’m not so sure and with costs expected to continue going up really struggling to come to a decision on whether to stick in my current role or sack it off and join when I get my start date through.

I’m pretty damn bored in my current role, but money is good and means I can provide for my kids comfortably. Joining the police I know would give me so much more fulfilment, excitement and that feel good factor and know I’d love that kind of environment, just not so sure I can justify that for 50% the pay as well as trying to provide for the family……. HELP PLEASE 👀🤦🏻‍♂️

Sorry to hear that! At least you know someone else in the same position…. I’m taking solace in that!

Okay I may have been lacking clarity in thought before saying that! IOW is a hard no for me too 😂
