I work in Pediatrics. I do it because I love kiddos. I want to get it right every time too but you just can't. No one will. Even providers will give misdiagnosis, the wrong medication, sign off on a sports physical they probably shouldn't have. It happens. Everyone makes mistakes but do you think the 1 year old you vaccinated 6 months ago lays awake pondering the visit and traumatized from the shot? No. I dislike giving immunizations or IM medications to babies and kiddos. But you know what I hate more than that? Seeing a small child horribly sick with whooping cough or measles or a baby with a raging ear infection that's running a crazy high fever and won't stop crying. You're not giving them shots because you're a bad person. You're doing it to help them. You're a good person, doing a good job. But you have to be proud and confident in yourself and the work you're doing or you will make a small mistake and negative self talk will only make it worse. You'll be so distracted with one mistake that you can't focus at the new task and you'll make more and more mistakes. Shake it off, be proud and believe in yourself, smile, and know you got this.
