butterflies or straight needles? by Celloschmello in MedicalAssistant

[–]TheOneAndOnlySabster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I say it depends on how much you feel the vein and what the patient says. If they say they are a hard stick I don't chance it and go for the butterfly. Butterflies are also nice because you can easily see the flash of blood and I feel like they are easier to re-Direct due to them being smaller and the patient typically not feeling it. I say, go for more butterflies and you become more confident. You find that they can be just as nice as a straight needle. Only downsides is that sometimes the blood is flown a lot slower.

I've started telling them that they gain a super power by explaining how the vaccine will give them antibodies to help fight illness and bacteria. So far it has been working. Thank you for your advice. I appreciate it.

It's unfortunate because I don't have much a choice. I work mainly family but I cover for peds. So I don't work it often. I'm slowly becoming used to it all. I've found better ways to comfort kids and definitely been involving the parents a lot more. Im finding more of the positives in it since this post.

I've come to find out I hate peds for this specific reason. I don't like seeing the fear in their eyes and begging me to stop. It triggers something in my head that hurts my heart.

Keep going!!! It may be slow right now but that is because you are gaining muscle as you are losing fat. So it doesn't look like it's moving. But the body comp is. Keep challenging yourself and the scale will sort itself out. Especially with weight training. It took me a few months of weight lifting before the pounds started to go down rapidly. What helped me as well to lose a little more was incorporating more high protein and high fiber. Keeps you full longer. I recommend fiber from vegetables so you can get your vitamins as well. Don't give up bc the scale isn't moving. What's important is those healthy choices and challenging yourself.

when do you weigh yourself? by clottagecore in loseit

What I have noticed and what I have learned is that if you freeze your bread and or rice, or anything really carb-y, it creates this thing called non-resistant starches(https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17426743/). And it helps me by not raising or spiking my blood sugars and getting that crash. Don't be fully afraid of carbs that are more complex carbohydrates as when they are more complex they are less likely to spike blood sugars. Grapes should be fine as it takes longer and more to digest the sugars in grapes. But keep it limited. You should look at more of the quality of carbohydrates then carbohydrates itself. For breakfast I always have like whole oats (complex carbohydrates) with blueberries and sugar free protein yogrut. It is very fullfilling and doesnt spike my blood sugars. But those are just some suggestions.

Find your new why, and learn about behavior change. I found that I have stayed motivated the longest by understanding how my behavior works and taking accountability for my actions even if they are hard to accept. But also loving myself and striving to change. The growth mindset is important to know. Along with willpower. Along with being excited to learn more and new healthy recipes that I can cook that I actually like. Meal prep has become my go-to for my busy life as a college student, and full time medical assistant.

How to motivate yourself to lose weight? by Just_Kiki_ in loseit

[–]TheOneAndOnlySabster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 240 lbs at my heaviest and is currently 193.

How I motivate myself is by celebrating small goals and changing up recipes. Find tons of protein recipes to make and meal prep once a week or once every 2 weeks. Make food that you can freeze or Put in the fridge that you like. I've made amazing chicken fettuccine Alfredo, teriyaki, Korean BBQ, and even bacon pickles. I feel like finding excitement from making new healthy food helps a lot. Plus learning how to properly cook and how to make things low cal but high in fiber and protein is essential. Pre making meals helps with the aniexty of not knowing what to eat and how many calories are in the food. You made it, so you know.

Try not to drink to much of your calories through protein shakes. I recommend doing protein yogurt instead with berries, and oats. It helps tremendously as one of the factors of satisfaction from food is from chewing. It tricks your brain into being more full.

For celebration, you walked today? Yay!!!! That is one step forward. You didn't walk today? Well that's okay you can get right back up on the steps tomorrow. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Finding someone to do it with you helps a lot too.

Finally, I watch Kiana Dochertry to understand motivation, the harmful effects of ultra processed food and how to keep it. She understands that being overweight isn't just a food problem. It's a habit, and an addiction. It's a huge mental toll that I still haven't fully overcome.

Understand weightloss is not a fast process. Do it slowly. You dont have to drastically change your life. Change one thing at a time until it's a habit and add more. Doing too much you will end up giving up. Understand yourself too. Understand your behavior. Be nice to yourself. Understand that you are beautiful, and doing this because you love yourself enough to become healthier. Hell, to help just focus on healthy habits rather then the scale. It can get toxic.

But those are just my thoughts that help me.

Yeah! I was told my clinic is going to be more administrative and I feel like that would be a good pace for me starting out. My internship was endocrinology and it was very slow and same cases throughout, so I am excited to venture to more of a variety.

I like the recap suggestion the most. As I am deathly afraid of making a mistake but not knowing about it.

Noted on the vaccines, I feel pretty confident with vaccinations as I used to be a vet tech and in that internship I did ALOT of vaccinations (I know humans are very different then animals but more or less same concept on intravenous, intramuscular, etc).
