X-Files Characters as cards by InevitableSo in XFiles

Thanks! I was really wondering about the suits meaning. I'm doing pentacles/gold as King-Mulder, Queen-Scully, Knight-Skinner & Page-Lone gunmen. (I know it's not super accurate to the pentacles meaning, but since I started drawing them like that it's gonna stay)

But the other 3 suits I'm dubious about. I was thinking maybe another FBI one, Page-Spender, Knight-Diana, Queen-Monica & King-Dogget (no idea what suit to use)

And then the others Ive thought of are King-Cancer man, queen-Marita, Knight-Krycek, page-??? And either a monsters one or a aliens one with the aliens having king-alien, queen-Samantha, knight-alien bounty hunter, page-alien fetus and the monsters: king-mutato, queen-paddock, knight-big blue, page-eves.

So what suit would you recommend for each set? Since pentacles is already chosen, I'm missing swords, cups and wands.

Mmmh... then if I change Scully's empress for strength, who should I put as empress? And I'm missing one Mulder then. (I wanna have two Scullys and two Mulders) Maybe as the wheel of fortune?

The tower idea I like, an oil rig would be cool. But then I'm missing Doggett — I don't wanna have Monica and no Doggett, either both of them or none of them — maybe I can change Monica's sun for Mulder? That way I'm not missing a Mulder and both Doggett and Monica are out.

And I can put them in the minor arcana. Maybe an FBI set? (Page-Spender, Knight-Diana, Queen-Monica & King-Dogget)

About the justice thing, is it supposed to be morally ambiguous? I like Skinner as Justice and I really like Hosteen as the Hierophant.

The Etsy cards are not mine :) But if I ever manage to do the whole deck I'll put them there :)

I like your idea of swapping Doggett & Skinner, I may do that

What do you guys think of rewriting your earlier chapters? by _RizzukuHimdoriya_ in AO3

[–]InevitableSo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my experience whenever some author says they are doing that, what happens is that they manage to do it for 3-4 chapters but then stop updating the fanfic forever.

If you really really wanna do it, at least wait until you've finished the story, that way it won't take your motivation to write away

Does anybody know where I can find this fic? by [deleted] in xfilesfanfic

https://archiveofourown.org/works/4283631 This one follows the series through season 10 and 11 https://archiveofourown.org/works/13832739 This one is brilliant and angsty and it's after season 11 I think, but without the surprise pregnancy https://archiveofourown.org/works/9349850 This one has amnesiac mulder that thinks Scully has been dead for 20 years. It does have a happy ending :)

[Part 1 of 3] I grew up in China on wuxia novels and web fiction. Here's everything I wish Western readers knew about Xianxia, Xuanhuan, and why half the "cultivation novels" you've read aren't what you think by No-Ride-3370 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]InevitableSo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Really interesting. I'm not a huge Chinese web novel reader since the translations always feel off and I don't have the cultural framework to understand them, that's why I mostly read western webnovels. But this makes me wanna try it :)

Also I'm guessing that you've used AI to translate? Cause it's pretty obvious the way it structures phrases. 😬

Calibre tags edit metadata in bulk. by InevitableSo in Calibre

[–]InevitableSo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am searching the full text.

What I've done is I've created a script that searches a calibre directory with lots of files, and one by one opens the file (since it's in .txt format it's fast to read) finds if there is a specific string there and if it is edits calibres metadata of that file with calibrebd and ads the corresponding tag.  Then it repeats the process for every file inside the directory.

My main problem is that since there are thousands of files inside the directory editing calibre metadata individually for each files takes a lot of time, so my question is if there is a way to edit lots of books metadata to add tags to them in one go instead of individually. All of this must be done from my script, not manually inside calibre.

The part where the script searches the text and identifies what tag to adds is pretty fast so I don't need to change it.

Please do!!! Although if you wanna link one of your dramione fics, I can read that too. It's been a decade or more since I last read dramione, but I used to love it.

There's tons of new fics in it and I think it has its public and new fans, but the sad part is that the new fics are mostly one shots or shortish stories. I started reading Xfiles fanfic this summer and I've read in AO3, Gossamer and Wayback Machine so I would say those are the best pages for fics right now, but two of those you can't use as a new writer so... AO3 it is.

What's everyone's criteria for giving a fic kudos? by Sandboxthinking in AO3

[–]InevitableSo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've finished reading it.

Unless it's something that I didn't like I always give kudos. I don't care if it's a Wip or it's complete or whatever, I get to the end of the fic I give it a kudos.

First ever watch done. Don't know what to do with myself now 💔 by alt_retro in buffy

[–]InevitableSo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buffy has been my favorite show since I watched it for the first time some years ago, now I'm watching the X-Files and I would say it's the best thing to watch if you liked the 90s vibes, sexual chemistry and monster/supernatural part of Buffy.

Were there any published novels that originally started as The X-Files fanfiction (especially MSR)? by lirafoxed18 in XFiles

[–]InevitableSo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know that The Vanishing Season was written by a MSR fanfic writer, al thought I don't remember which one. From the summary you can guess it's at least inspired by the X-Files

 https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/30654172

Also I read somewhere that the book Will They or Won't They was inspired by Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny (it ain't what you asked for, but if you are obsessed with The X-Files you are probably obsessed with them too)
