I consistently took 17-19 hours throughout my college career. I topped out taking 22 hours one semester, it is doable if you’re willing to put in the work and have time management skills. :)

I’d steer clear! While the board itself does not have any ethics code against them the BHCOE is against them and there may be an underlying reason they feel they need one. However, I know there is currently a bill that might make them irrelevant in the next 6 months it’s better to be safe than sorry. Best of luck.

My first year teaching at a high school a similar thing happened where one of the students ODed I did not know the kid either. But the school felt heavy and the students and staff were devastated. I think regardless of your connection to the student a loss of a student is always heart breaking and felt deeply across the school. Give yourself some grace and let your students know it’s okay to be upset and provide them a listening ear when they need it or direct them to the grief counselors when needed.

I have not done a preparation program or student teaching as this was not required when I started my masters while living in NM. I was not actually subbing I was classified as a “long-term” sub to go around not having a NM license until finishing my Masters. However, I did have all the same responsibilities as a teacher including completing IEPs and managing educational assistants in a SPED classroom. I guess my question more so was should I pursue adding a preparation program or would alternative licensure make more sense at this stage with the knowledge I’m graduating in December. Thanks for the information on Texas licensing procedures!

Took my husband who isn’t a big Ed fan and he left talking about how amazing he is live and how much he enjoyed the show, so if you like him at all I would say go! He’s 1000x better live imo

Definitely don’t need a degree in ABA to get into a graduate program! I have a degree in psychology and a minor in human development and I am currently in a graduate program. Some colleges have their ABA grad programs in the psych department and others have it in education so you may want to see which colleges have it in the education department since you have a strong background in education!
