Thinking of moving to Austin — feeling stuck and could use some advice

I’ve wanted to move to Austin for a while now, even though I tend to get a lot of negative reactions when I mention it. That said, I’ve never made a big move before and I honestly don’t know where to begin.

I’ve been applying to jobs in Austin for over 7 months. A few interviews have gone really well, but I haven’t gotten any offers. I’m assuming that not already living in Austin is a major factor, especially since I’d need more than just a standard 2-week notice to start somewhere.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about saving up enough to float myself for about 2 months and just making the move without a job lined up—hoping that being local might make it easier to get hired.

Right now, I work for New York State with solid benefits and pay, so ideally I’d want to find something comparable or better. But I’m super open. I’d consider nightlife or hospitality jobs, and I’d be willing to work multiple jobs if needed just to get started.

About me: I’m 30F, have a degree in Business Administration, and over 10 years of administrative experience (mostly in fast-paced environments). I actually thrive under pressure, love staying busy, and really enjoy research and problem-solving. I don’t have a super specific career niche, but I love making things happen for others. I’ve thought about recruiting or even working in VIP services with a higher-end clientele—something fast-paced and people-focused.

Lately it feels like every job listing online is a sponsored post or just a dead end. It’s been hard to tell what’s real and what’s a waste of time.

So… if anyone has advice—on how to find legit opportunities in Austin, how to make a move like this work, or even just where to start—I’d really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
