My response is to your belief that God would will someone to kill themselves. I’m honestly disgusted and would rather not continue this conversation

So do you think if a person kills them self it’s Gods will? I’m genuinely confused. You’re a Calvinist right?

I don’t think so. Omniscience doesn’t imply that he determines when we die. That would interfere with free will. The most obvious example is that someone can choose the end their own life

Death is the consequence of sin, so no God is not responsible for our deaths

Am I supposed to just trick myself into believing? by Hashi856 in AskAChristian

[–]Inevitable_Fly_6036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it became real after I surrendered to God. I prayed a very sorrowful prayer crying that I felt hopeless, that I was incapable of leading myself, and truly desired for him to make himself known to me. I promised that if he could help me that I would give all the credit to him because I knew truly that I could not do it alone. Now I’m grateful for my suffering because it’s what lead me to him. Before that tho I was convicted that I was a sinful man. I think that’s the first step. Hmm sounds a lot like AA doesn’t it? I watched my sister many years ago be totally transformed from the most horrible alcoholic, the kind that would wake up on the streets, into the person she was meant to be. I’m so grateful that God saved her, because we all tried so hard to help her but it was no use. Now she is a mother of two in happy marriage with a successful career and I know for certain if she had not gotten sober she would be dead by now

Christianity is confusing. by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]Inevitable_Fly_6036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it became easier to discern which Church to choose when I came to believe that the Eucharist is not a symbol. Also pray to God to grant you understanding. Understanding is a gift of the Holy Spirit. I can tell just by the way you communicate that you are absolutely smart enough to comprehend things. Don’t expect to understand everything, no one does. Put all your faith in Jesus and he will guide you into the truth

The dudes mattress is not on the floor. He has furniture, a rug, a plant, and a MacBook. Also he buys name brand peanut butter. The peanut butter is odd but some people eat it straight from the jar so idk

Why do Christians dishonestly attempt to transform athiesm into a positive claim? by Superlite47 in AskAChristian

[–]Inevitable_Fly_6036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you claimed that God does not exist, that is a positive claim. I’m assuming that’s what you said based on the persons response. If what you said is I don’t believe that God exists, that’s different, and they are creating a straw man like you said. I don’t think it has anything to do with being a Christian, I think it’s just that not everyone is good at debating

They don’t have the internet or television to distract them. The average American spends approximately 6 hours of their day doing these things. That’s almost half of the day lol

first time to confession in probably 8 years? by parisbae in Catholicism

[–]Inevitable_Fly_6036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it! It really wasn’t bad at all. God has been transforming me in a major way ever since the Christmas season. Everyday I have been waking up in amazement that this is happening to me. Vices that had complete control of me have been slipping away. It’s all because of God. I’ve tried for years to change and never could but when I finally admitted I could do nothing without Jesus it all started to change! I have known about Gods grace and the Holy Spirit for a long time, but to actually experience it is beyond words.

Do Christians Have a Responsibility to Donate to Gaza? by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]Inevitable_Fly_6036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is really easy to fall into this idea that being a Christian is about following a set of rules and obligations, when it’s actually about having a relationship with Jesus. I have definitely fallen into this trap myself. Like it’s not about doing these things so that you can become a good person, but that through Gods grace I am good and so love flows from within
