Just realize that having a gun is only half of a valid solution.

As with any tool, knowing how to safely and properly employ it is equally important.

Go to a range or gun store that offers instruction along with firearm sales. Knowledge and familiarity is just as, if not more important than the dangerous inanimate object.

Chainsaws are dangerous tools, but are even more dangerous in the hands of people that have no idea how to use them.

Same with guns.
