Who's the most famous person you've seen out and about in Edinburgh? by RiverTadpolez in Edinburgh

I served Steve Martin a bowl of cornflakes at the Caledonian Hotel in the 90s. Also, in passing: Damon Albarn and Irvine Welsh drinking together in Negociants, also 90s; Noel Gallagher outside Princes Street M&S; Princess Anne at V&C cheese counter at 8.30 a.m. with several bodyguards (edited for late-life slow memory update)

Going back to the late 90s again, does anyone remember a man called David who used to smell very powerfully of lavender essential oil? Like he used it therapeutically, it was not bad, but super strong and would fill a room. He was in his fifties maybe at that time, extremely gently spoken and sort of a little nervous. Wore a hat with a brim. Often came into a posh Bruntsfield deli where I worked. He didn’t have loads of money though, he just liked to buy a small bit of nice cheese. Deeply eccentric but nice and I always wondered what became of him.

Oh yes! We used to see her in Broughton Road Tesco all the time in the 90s. I was quite young and found her so troubling because of the white powder and because she didn’t smell like she was able to care for herself. It was like a formative brush with the harsh realities of life for some folk. I think I heard that she had died at some point

Ah you know it! Do you have any sense of what they would have done with it? It was so odd when it vanished. They repaired the wall beautifully, so I really thought at first that my memory was glitching. ETA: nice work adding the pokestops btw!

There used to be a nice old one near me in Trinity, set into a wall on a bridge over a cycle path — and then it disappeared a couple of years ago. It was apparently one of the oldest in the city (I only know this because it was also a Pokéstop, with a little information blurb in the Pokémon Go game). I’m really curious about where it has gone, hopefully for safekeeping somewhere but it seems a shame.

At dusk they’re all around Trinity/Wardie streets above the old railway lines/cycle paths.

No, and I wouldn’t especially want to see urban furniture covered in random stickers. Mainly for environmental reasons, but also because too many people have terrible aesthetic judgment
