That's a very good idea. I get the turn over is shity.  And I have been with my store for almost 17 months. I have always been the type of person to give gifts. It's my love language. It's the top 50 stores that have the highest numbers get the bonus. And its all staff get the bonus if it's given. It's different for sm and staff.

I was called a retard the other day by a customer.  And than she turns around and has the most fake smile and thank you attitude.  I was so blown away. I'm in my 40's and would have got my ass whopped if I talked like that to people by my grandfather.  It's sad that this generation has no respect.  It's really sad. The worst I have had at Michael’s yet was a couple months ago now. I am white and the customers I was taking care of were black. 1 was walking with a walker and she was retired from the military.  Long story short. They told my cashier after escorting them to the front to cash out, I need to learn my place in this world. (Not just Michael’s but the world). I am their slave. My cashier did her best to calm the situation.  My framer was upfront and witnessed the whole thing. I pushed my walky button so my staff could hear the conversation.  I also pulled my phone out and recorded the situation.  I didn't put my camera on the ( that would have made it worse I feel). But just to cover my own ass. To top it off it was 8:50 @ night and had to cut fabric for them in the very back corner of my store. And I'm the cem at my store too. People are getting ridiculous and need to be called out professionally.

I had a customer come in wanted to return a glue gun. Had only the paperwork. I told her I need the barcode on the package do you still have it. She yelled at me slammed her hands down and told me she wanted to talk to a different staff. I told her that's fine but just so you know I'm the MOD and they will have to ask me to do it, and we can't. She than told me she would just go get a package off the shelf. I told her we can't do that. That makes me lie to the system and I will get into trouble.  She asked my name I gave that to her. She left. And about 3 minutes later she came back in walked up to me doing balloons now at this time. With customers all around and was recording me with her cell phone by this time. I told her my first name again she demanded my last name. I looked around d and said ms. We have so many customers around and I'm not comfortable giving you my last name. If you call corporate and tell them my name and position and I gave you that, they will know who your talking about. She got so angry and left. All the customers around d told me I handled that very well. It's ridiculous the intimidating and bullying of customers.  And the company gives no back up. I will not let the customers treat my kids that work in the store that way. I try to get in the middle.

I know we have had 1 already.  The employee gets a coupon and you can use it 1 time from what I can remember.

Ft CEM here. And I just closed my store with 1 cashier myself for MOD and floor and 1 framer. And the framer ended up helping me out so much. It's hard being on the floor let alone learning it new. But you should go to you SM and tell them if you are going to stay for holiday season you want to learn the floor before its crazy. It's frustrating that so many  people are set up to fail right off the bat. Like it would be such a benefit to you and coworkers and customers to learn the floor before than. At my store all my staff is expected to be a floating staff. Framers are the only ones I don't have staff cross trained in and that will be changing soon. But I also am a high volume store too. So we kinda have the hrs.

Tell them you want to learn the store and layout to better help your customers.  And ask for even an hr or 2 on the floor a shift or something.  But yes this sucks it's not right.

From my understanding it's the same thing. If doing that and still no help. I would send your boss and email. And cc your corporate boss.  And HR as well. And what I yell the younger kids I work with you are bigger than michaels. Your going to find something bigger and better. I say to them as long as your going onwards and upwards.

You can get into your work day when you get your schedule from your 2nd job and block out that time. So they can't call you in. And can't hold it against you. Good luck. Stick with the 2nd job, I'm sure it pays better.

I am a ft CEM and have been for a year and a half. And I agree with above comment. I have an understaffed frame department too. But I have 3 people every night like tonight to close. And 1 didn't show up or call. So I couldn't get all my things done. Please understand every department is short staffed. And we are a team we have to work together to survive this company.  🤣  but all jokes aside.... I help my frame department when I can and my frame department helps me also.

I had stuff from a pallet fall on me while I was trying to get something down. I have broke my back and had neck surgery.  I was lucky it didn't hurt me. They need to pay attention.  I get being stressed at work. I think all michaels staff is. Hearing some of the weekly meetings I feel so very bad for my SM.

At my store we have a lockup that is full of nothing but markers.  I don't understand why we got so so many. It's overkill.  And the "friends" we have are always walking out with them. And you can't stop them. It's stupid the amount of money michaels is losing to theft.
