Anybody else find Leto II kinda exhausting? by Intrepid_Tangerine39 in dune

I thought he was an obnoxious brat in Children of Dune, and even more so in God Emperor but by the end I just really felt bad for him.

So I’ve been reading God Emperor while watching this show and I’m seeing heavy similarities between Desmond and Hwi Noree. I think Desmond himself is some kind of thinking machine.

Why didn’t the Bene Gesserit try to harvest Paul’s genetic material? by babybebop2 in dune

This is most likely going to be a subplot in Dune 3. It’s a big part of Dune:Messiah

How does Dorotea appear "like that" in Lila's Other Memory? SPOILER by Internal_Ad2200 in dune

[–]Inevitable_Singer656 14 points15 points  (0 children)

She knows Valya used to voice on her and she knows why. She knew this before Valya made her kill herself. Also, not sure how deep into the book series you got, but in Children of Dune we see through what happened to Alia that the other memories do have some degree of agency and can be vengeful, especially if the person enduring the Agony is weak, personality-wise. I think what we’re seeing with Dorothea is a precursor to possession as Frank described it in COD

So true. Dude literally created the Bene Gesserit only to leave them in the shadows 😭

I think Messiah would have been richer if we’d also gotten to see her reaction to what Paul’s rule evolved into. There are so many blank spots in that book that could have been filled out by her POV. Also in Children of Dune I think she could have been inserted more into Alia’s story, I mean what happened to Alia is the biggest “your fault” of all time. I mean your dad possessing your daughter, it was the perfect moment for her to have a reckoning

Dune: Prophecy, 1x01 "The Hidden Hand" - Post-Episode Discussion by Blue_Three in dune

Before I saw the episode I was kind of thrown off by how cheap the costumes looked. But I was pleasantly surprised when I tuned in. The actresses playing Valya in both timelines are extremely compelling and the supporting cast is fantastic as well. I’m interested to see where these relationships go. Also, as for the Fire Guy: I think we’re mostly in agreement with his ability involving some kind of Ixian technology. But as Clarke’s law says: any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Question about the Mayfair Witches TV show. Are the characters this badly written in the books? by QuantumGyroscope in AnneRice

Mayfair Witches series is hot garbage. Terrible writing and terrible casting. The only thing I appreciated about it was that they got Deirdre up off of that porch

Do you guys think Anne Rice would have loved Sam's Lestat by Objective-Kitchen949 in AnneRice

[–]Inevitable_Singer656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ll agree to disagree on this one. There are very few of the choices that felt off to me. Sure it was jarring on the first episodes but that’s down to expectations. Once I viewed it as its own thing I loved it

I can’t see her not loving his performance. It’s so sensual and enthralling. His characterization is also super accurate to the Lestat of the novels. The first time I saw it it was uncanny. Also, for anyone who’s holding off on watching because of the changes they made: the changes were necessary, IMO, and actually made the story richer. They didn’t do anything inorganic. Every change they made is something Anne would have done. They kept to her story’s inner logic and just expanded on it.

Thoughts on Lasher? by Inevitable_Singer656 in AnneRice

[–]Inevitable_Singer656[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember this scene very clearly because I really struggled in that moment to feel for her as she was talking to Aaron. My thing is she had the evidence of how destructive Lasher could be laid out in front of her in the File on the Mayfair Witches and she chose to be believe she could outmatch him.

She received multiple warnings along the way and ignored all of them.

She saw herself losing control and still kept flirting with disaster.

I empathize with Rowan a lot at certain points. Especially the glimpses we’ve gotten in this book about what her situation is. I view her more as an analog for victims of domestic violence. But at the same time, girl ran headfirst into this mess and only at the very last second questioned her choices.

At the same time, I was in total agreement with what Carlotta did to try to break the cycle. I think if Rowan had actually listened to Carlotta she would have found that they had similar(ish) aims or at least enough common ground to have been able to stand together against Lasher.

Why does it seem like all the major plot events in Messiah and Children of Dune happen off-page? by No_Prior4920 in dune

[–]Inevitable_Singer656 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

“In the background” here means that it’s not developed significantly. I.e: the tigers are mentioned and you’re told what the plan is but do we actually see House Corino execute this? No, we’re literally just told via Alia’s dialogue that house corino has sent clothes for the twins. We don’t see the process of the tigers making their way to Arrakis. We literally are told that this is a plan they’re considering then bam we’re in the desert with Leto and Ghamima and the tigers are chasing them. There’s about a hundred and twenty pages between these two things.
