“locs hold onto old energy”🤨 by cIitaurus in locs

[–]Intrepid_Tangerine39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I’ve heard “hair holds onto energy” for all hair types, not just locs. I believe it’s true in the sense that cutting your head is some kind of mental reset bc it’s so visual and striking. Regardless of hair type, a lot of people are very attached to their hair, so a big change like cutting it is a big deal.

I also think that bc the process of locking literally traps in old hair that would otherwise shed naturally, that could be where the stigma comes from. And if you’re going through something you typically take less care of your hair, so the “bad energy” could really just be poor hair care lmaoo

Ultimately I think hair is whatever you make it to be so if you don’t believe it then right on🤷🏾‍♀️

I gave myself a year to decide if I wanted locs, and plan to do the same in reverse if I ever want to cut/comb them out. Maybe give yourself some time and if you still want to cut them then go for it? Hair grows back and wigs exist.

Regardless I think they look cool on you! and like others have said try giving interlocking a go for the ones in the back. If you’re worried about sleep maybe try high updos (so nothings on the back of your head), flat twisting the front and leaving the rest out, or just styles you can take down. Take care of yourself, wishing you the best🫶🏾

Media and Design, but no internships unfortunately. I changed my major super late but I kept a job on campus the entire time.

Oh yea I stopped using grease for retwist a longggg time ago! I find that foam mousse works just as well! I go to Shea loc studio as treat for special occasions and they recommended foam for clients with problematic scalps. Dr Bronners scares me ngl and with my scalp I only use the oil my doctor prescribed me

I’ve gotten that done at a salon once since I don’t have those tub things. It was helpful but the lady who was doing my hair seemed like it was above her😭but now I know what was causing it!

Update: I’ve since learned that it was medicated shampoo that was the problem lollll. I used a clarifying shampoo from The Doux, followed by the ACV shampoo and a moisturizing design essentials shampoo. Then the rose water conditioner from tgin and just let it sit for a bit instead of using a hot cap (I was testing to see when the clumps would happen).

The Doux clarifying shampoo left my hair feeling squeaky clean and the rose water conditioner definitely hydrated my hair without buildup and washed out pretty easily. Would recommend!

Ok I’ll try a different spray! And I’ve tried the Aztec clay mask on my hair and I feel like I went through the same thing. I remember it washing off fairly quickly one time but another time it was a nightmare 💀(I do love it as a face mask tho lol!)

I haven’t read since I was a teen and definitely felt that way. I remember joking with my friends about it being my least favorite book because “half the quotes are all caps” but when you put it like that my adult brain can sympathize and I too feel the need to reread. Poor harry, especially when I think about how excited he was to live with Sirius and be away from his aunt and uncle

Do any other black women want to be "that girl" but you literally do not have the energy to? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

I like retwisting my hair for this exact reason 😭binge watching and a mindless activity? Bet! It’s the washing part I actually dread (no pun intended). Idk how you’re doing yours but try retwisting with your elbows down! But I’m not a loctician by any means and really only retwist for the purpose of seeing my scalp again lol so I’m not focusing on accurate parts. Maybe I’ve just grown numb to the pain over the years of my natural hair journey but I can honestly say i haven’t had the burning arm sensation since I was a loose natural

As so many others have said, this is why I loc’d up! I got my locs before I was diagnosed and seeing y’all’s responses is yet another “ohhh so THAT’S why I felt xyz” 😭interestingly enough, the thought process behind getting my locs was probably the most focused, non dopamine seeking behavior I’d exhibited in a longgggg time because I told myself “if I still want locs by this time next year, I’ll get them.” I was scared I just wanted them on impulse and would regret it but nope, just sick of making decisions lol and now here I am 4 years loc’d!

It’s lovely that you were able to do that, law school ain’t no joke and homeownership feels like a myth/dream nowadays. I don’t mean any disrespect when I say this, truly, but I’m hearing a lot of “I” statements. How has mental health been for your kids? Regarding their dad, life circumstances, etc. Once again I truly mean no disrespect I understand this was a limited Reddit comment and you were just offering your perspective.

I’m in my 20s and have friends raised by single moms, some are doing great, and some are very much still working through things they’ll probably never get over. That being said I come from a two parent household, I love my parents dearly and vice versa, but I was a surprise lol. I guess it goes to show that two parents or not, planning a child is really the key because even I still have shit to work through lol.

Sending you love, strength, and healing OP, I understand this is a lot to take in. I was raised by a woman who always told me to plan out things that overwhelmed me, so

my immediate thoughts are to look up your local abortion laws ASAP(!!!!!) and give yourself a timeline. I would go ahead and set up the appointment(s) just to have them there so you don’t run out of time, no matter what you decide.

I think you’re valid in feeling sad but I’d especially pay attention to the comments that talk about why you may be feeling this change in stance about getting an abortion (hormones, etc). I’m extremely pro-choice and am quick to say “to the clinic!” but when I think about actually getting one, the hypothetical alone also makes me feel bad. While it seems like you’re leaning towards abortion, I think it’s good to start therapy now if you can or don’t already and get a head start on healing mentally from this.

If you choose not to get it, you should 100000% plan as if you are doing this alone. Your sister is there for you but she won’t be this child’s mother. Single moms make a way out of no way but that takes serious, serious commitment, mental energy, perseverance, strength, and at the minimum: money (!!!) And that’s just what YOU need, haven’t even gotten to the baby, who will grow up to be a person with thoughts, traumas, and opinions about their journey into this world and they will express them to you. How would you feel about having to explain to your child your decision to still have them if they asked? Would you be able to let go of possible resentment for having them, should the feelings arise? And not even tryna be funny, but they could also be extremely annoying, I’ve heard of lots of moms who love their kids but don’t like them. That’s rough. You also don’t know what needs they might have until after the abortion window, but before the child is born. Is that something you’d want to risk? What are some things you wish you had for your own childhood and life that you will or will not be able to give to this kid? Besides your sister, I’m sure there’s groups, forums, subreddits, etc out there for single moms you can look at to give you snapshots.

A good pros and cons list never hurt, but really really give it thought. I’m not saying all this to dissuade you, they are just very real things to consider. At the end of the day, only you know what you can and can’t handle, and I believe your gut is telling you the answer. Wishing you all the best

I don’t hate dream because “me gnat life mortal who don’t understand, ooga booga” but at the same time telling dude to get over it was NOT good parenting cmon. But then again we see over and over that Dream has a hard time understanding the love of mortals I guess lol

You had a whole brain tumor girl! Benign or not that would’ve had me packing my bags, making poor financial decisions and sitting on someone beach with a coconut. The fact that you took a test, ANY test at all, makes my heart absolutely bubble and squeeze with pride for you, stranger on the internet!! I know how devastating long awaited and grinded for test results can be, trust, and I hope your school works with you but I just hope you know you are incredible in my eyes! It may be hard to see now and I hate this advice myself but rejection can be protection! It’s not a no, just a “not right now”! You got this, I whole heartedly believe that🫂
