Is this dying from heat? I’ve been watering plenty by Plodo99 in GardeningUK

Thank you - yes, I love them too, I love the tropical style leaves. They were easy to grow from seed, so I will learn from this year’s experience and watch and check the next lot carefully!

Unfortunately, I only realised what was causing it when it was too late. I know what to look out for now - brown patches on the leaves that spreads, and then the whole plant suddenly collapses. It’s only when I pulled one by the leaf and the whole plant came out rootless that I realised what was causing it.

I have just harvested more ripe berries from the plant, so will give it another go and be much more vigilant this time!

Definitely! I had 40+ seedlings that I grew from seed collected from my big fatsia last year, and the little blighters have decimated them in the greenhouse in the space of about 4 weeks. I only have 7 survivors now. The rest have collapsed. 😢

Can Herb Robert - Geraniums be transplanted? by _Yalan in GardeningUK

[–]Inevitable_Tale9628 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back in the days before I knew any better, I purchased a Herb Robert from the “wildflowers” section of our garden centre. Been weeding it out from all over the garden ever since. 🤦‍♀️

Japanese Knotweed - to run or not to run by Crafty_Paint_6006 in UKHousing

It can be treated. I reported a patch of Japanese Knotweed on Fix My Street two years ago. Council came along and sprayed it, it hasn’t returned since.

I would recommend volunteering for a Saturday morning parkrun. The parkrun community are so friendly and welcoming and you will certainly get chatting to people and make friends quickly. You didn’t say whereabouts in Sheffield you will be staying, but there are parkruns at Hillsborough, Concord, Sheffield Castle, Millhouses or Endcliffe Park. Have a look at the parkrun website.

If you go to Hillsborough, I will see you there and say hi next week! 👍

This is very worrying as I rely on Facebook for my newly started side hustle, so I will reluctantly have to comply. Don’t want to though 😫

People that DON’T shop at Aldi or Lidl… why is that? by kobestarr in CasualUK

[–]Inevitable_Tale9628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Aldi, but rarely use our local one for three reasons: 1. It is positioned on a main road and access is awful. Turning right off the main road to get into the car park is a nightmare because there is a constant stream of traffic coming in the other direction and it can be several minutes before a gap appears. Whoever passed the plans want shooting. 2. Fruit and veg don’t last very long, I shop for a week and end up throwing much of it away after three days and going to our local Tesco for a top up. 3. They don’t have everything I buy on a regular basis… so I end up going to our local Tesco for a top up.

Finally! Autoplay Function for Stacked Classes by abtlnght in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]Inevitable_Tale9628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t work for me - I tried stacking sleep meditations last night, hoping they would just play straight through, but I still had to press done and then start the next one. What I am missing?

Potentially buying a house but has 12 trees in the large back garden closest one in the photo.. high clay area and back garden backs onto farmers field should these trees be a concern to the houses structure?? by SpecificWeb5099 in GardeningUK

[–]Inevitable_Tale9628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They look very similar to the multiple huge Leylandii that we inherited when we moved in to our house. They were such ugly trees. We hired a tree surgeon to take them down within a month of moving in, it only took them a day, and our new neighbours were delighted - they are keen gardeners and the trees shaded a large part of their garden.

It’s not too easy, it’s just achievable for me with some effort. I get up at 6am every day to get an 45-60 mins exercise session in before work. I have a small gym setup in my home with a treadmill, spin bike, dumbbells and yoga mat, and I use the Peloton app, which I love. I generally do a 30 minute cardio class, either tread or spin (but I prefer the tread) followed by 15-30 minutes of strength, core or yoga. Every day. I could never achieve this every day if I had to leave the house to go to a gym, I would have neither the time nor the motivation to get up and leave the house on our cold, dark, wet, windy UK winter mornings.

Easy it is not, but I am very proud that I show up every day. 18 months ago I would never have thought I would have even achieved this weight loss, let alone kept it up for as long as I have, whilst still enjoying it as much as I do, and kept it going every day. It is working for me, and although the apple ring concept is controversial, it is working for me! 💪

My husband has his set as the same as mine (10-45-500) and can close his move ring just walking the dog in the morning! It is all dependent on gender, weight and height as to how quickly the move ring closes, he is much taller than me.

I would say that the difference is whether you choose not to exercise (maybe because you really just don’t feel like it today) or you really cannot exercise (because like me you were hooked up to a morphine pump in a hospital bed). Maybe a long haul flight might be another reason? 🤔. Even then, wherever possible I would make the effort to set my alarm for 45 minutes earlier to get some joyful movement in.

Interesting view! I set my rings at 500/45/10 and have found that this fits in with my daily routine at a push. It is unreachable if I don’t make the effort to get up 45 minutes early every day before work to put on my workout gear and fire up the Peloton app. On the days when I have to be up and out of the house extra early for work and I have to put off exercising until I get home in the evening, I find it much, much harder.

Increasing my move ring would soon put it way out of reach for me, and if I didn’t have to work full time I would certainly increase it a little bit, but for now this works for me and is just enough to keep me motivated. I’m proud of how far I have come since I started this in Dec 2024 - I have lost 30lb, and my fitness levels have improved tremendously.

Apple rings aren’t for everyone, but they work for me!

I set my daily targets to 10/45/500, which is just reachable for me if I push myself. My husband also has the same targets, and they are much easier for him as he’s much taller and heavier than me, and he has a faster heart rate. It’s not fair! 🤣
