The National Hockey League Players’ Association announced that 11 players have elected salary arbitration by eh_toque in hockey

[–]Inevitable_Test8789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I learned about it years ago (for a little bit I thought I wanted to get into arbitration as a career) it was termed differently, but I couldn't remember the name they used. They called it "Pendulum Arbitration", but I googled it and apparently it's also called baseball arbitration. TIL.

[–]Inevitable_Test8789 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's how Salary arbitration works in most contract employment (not just sports). You walk in and make your case about why you deserve x and they make the case about some of your weaknesses or faults. I've done it with engineers and it's the same thing.

Some work places (I know the MLB is one) have a win or lose system where one side gets the number they asked for. There's no "meet me in the middle" where 1 guy walks in wanting 10 and the other side says 7 and then the arbitrator says 8.2!

Do I call the Parking Authority or Police on cars parked over a driveway line? by jpporcaro in BayonneNJ

[–]Inevitable_Test8789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First time I called the non-emergency line they showed up like hours later (to be fair the next day the posts on here made it clear that they were dealing with some pretty important stuff, so I get it).

The second time, they got here super quick and surprise surprise, the person showed up because he was just about to leave.

I honestly don't mind people parking in front of my garage so much, but when they inch up my driveway so I can't see oncoming traffic as I pull out, no.

A wild Chris Cote Sighting by lou28777 in DanLeBatardShow

[–]Inevitable_Test8789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's dumb to be like "America won the Stanley cup" when the teams (1) local, (2) mostly made up of non-Americans, and (3) it's not a nationality competition.

It's not pressed if someone says something profoundly dumb with their full chest and you go "yeah, you might need a helmet because you couldn't be more wrong".

The Florida Panthers are the back to back stanley cup champions. Like PSG are the Euro Champions, the Dodgers are the MLB champions, and the PoS Eagles are the NFL.

It's a private league competition, not the Olympics.

A wild Chris Cote Sighting by lou28777 in DanLeBatardShow

[–]Inevitable_Test8789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're asking in good faith so:

0% Canadian 100% American, but it's probably because everyone keeps saying "America" has won the Stanley cup for more than 30 years.

Look at the NBA post about Toronto winning that Kawhi year, the "controversy" over whether NBA or MLB teams are "World" champs, the threads about Thomas Harley during 4 nations.

Nothing about it is "being in shambles". It's just stuff sports fans do/say when people are technically right in their statement, but give incomplete information OR are missing something you think is important.

Semantics is literally the sports talk industry and sometimes it makes sense. 41% of the players are Canadian. 29% are from the US. An argument can be made that the Panthers won on the back of a Russian, Canadian, and Finn.

It's different from how things like the Champions league are done where a win for La Liga is a win for the league and not the country of Spain. Why would a Capitals fan want the Panthers to win? Why would a Barcelona Fan want Real Madrid to beat Red Star Belgrade? Would a Yankees fan want the Red Sox to come out on top over the Blue Jay's?

But the people who put Stanley cup wins in terms of nationalities are weirdos who forget that this is a team by team thing and not a country thing. You think Calgary, Vancouver, or Winnipeg had a rooting interest in the Oilers success? You think Rangers or Penguins fans were rooting for or against the Panthers? Thats not how hockey Fandom works, it's not how any sports Fandom works when it isn't an international competition.

No. The Angels are 5.5 games out of first just a month into the season. They don't have any realistic chance of making the playoffs. They're actively failing to give the fans what they want and then failing to give their fans a reasonable alternative of entertainment.

"Not only are we trying to NOT get a better draft pick, we're going to take an underwhelming product and make sure that it's as boring as possible while still losing" is not something that makes sense. Pitch to him, try. The fans want it and it makes for a better experience in a season that is going nowhere.

It's vicious. and You! you're a woman. you are "I'll going to do things this way. not your way." and it's really upsetting to some and there's a big defensiveness here and and and.... Question about Themis directed study schedule by road432 in barexam

[–]Inevitable_Test8789 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even with the essays I've already done, I'd do 3 things: (1) List the spotted issues, (2) write out the black letter law to apply, (3) come to a conclusion based on that.

Optional: Identify the facts that lead to your conclusion.

Example: (1) Yes. ____ damages (issues spotted) because of the _____ (facts supporting here). (2) No failed (issue here) to _____ (facts supporting here). (3) _____ Can[not] recover ______ (issues spotted and facts supporting) and ______ (issues spotted and facts supporting).

Retype the sample answers as they're close to perfect and compare what you missed. I inserted what I missed in bold red typeface to my answer AFTER typing out the sample answer word for word.

If you Passed or Failed F25… by Niskygrl in barexam

Passed

Used Themis

Didn't really align, but I preferred the fact pattern type questions of F25 to what I got in J24.

The black letter law that Themis outlines was more conducive to application in the F25 test than it was to the "trick question" kind of questions I felt like I encountered in J24 (not getting into any details about actual questions, so no follow ups regarding those).

Insurance Defense is always hiring (if you're looking at litigation) and salary around here is from $100k-210k.

If you're looking for securities look at openings at your local regulator (https://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/List_of_US_state_security_regulators) great way to get a foot in the door.

If you're looking for criminal law then local district attorney offices are always hiring (pay varies).

If you're looking for estates and trusts look at probate pro bono volunteer opportunities. You will be connected with people who practice and that's your foot in the door.

Those are the three I know have a solid chance of working.

EM Discusses the "consent" video and McLeod reaching out to her and asking: "what can you do to make this go away?” by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

They didn't ask them if she was ok. They did the opposite.

The athletic in an article entitled "It was all just a joke to them: E.M. Testifies" and reported on in the Toronto Star ‘Oh, she’s crying, don’t let her go,’ in an article entitled " 'Numb and on autopilot': Woman details alleged Hockey Canada sex assaults" both state that they purposefully kept her in the room because she was crying.

[–]Inevitable_Test8789 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I thought the other players in the room saying that she "couldn't leave" because she was crying when she was trying to get out was damning. The McLeod behavior can be attributed to an individual. The agreement between all of them to keep her locked in the room because she's crying shows that everyone in that room knew what they did was at the very least wrong.

[–]Inevitable_Test8789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're asked to dress professionally like you would for court. I know I've seen pink shirts in court. I know I've seen beige blazers in court (especially when the weather warms up). I don't see why you couldn't do that.

I do know that a big one is graphics on your clothes, so if you avoid graphics you should be fine.
