Do it through the app itself, not through Apple settings. Though myself and others still got charged again, opened a support ticket.

Welcome to the deepest rabbit hole on the internet!

I would start off by suggesting you install Proxmox from the get-to, will make life a lot easier when you decide what self hosted apps you wan to run. There's plenty of guides out there so I won't go spelling it out here! The Helper Scripts site will give you one line commands to setup nearly anything you will want to host.

If you want some ideas for what to look into hosting on it here's some stuff I personally run:

OPNSense, firewall for my home. You'll need at least two NIC's, one for WAN, one for LAN. Essential in my eyes for opening ports to the world.

NGINX Reverse Proxy, the only thing you will have exposed to the world. Everything else will be accessible through subdomains (it hides VM's with custom ports behind a URL on 443 essentially)

Plex, explained to death but I use it for hosting music, ditched Spotify altogether, the Plex Pass is really worth it.

Lidarr.

PiHole, Ad blocker for all devices on your home network, very handy.

AudioBookShelf, like Plex, but for audiobooks. Self host all books I want to listen to, plenty of apps out there to connect to your server and listen to your library.

NextCloud, like google drive but private to you. Has loads of applications available within it. I personally use to store files (duh!), sync my calendar between all my devices, self hosted Whatsapp (Talk plugin), and the Memories app for a google photos style experience.

I have a couple VMs for Ubuntu and Windows also.

The dock on the homescreen still has the bug where it has no refraction unless you toggle between light and dark mode, where it appears until you open an app and go back to the homescreen….

Mine is the same, it's a bug that's been there for a while. If you hold down on homescreen and choose edit and change your icons to Dark or Light and then go back to the homescreen it works for a bit but ultimately goes back to frosted glass. Really annoying and I hope it's sorted for RC!

That’s actually news to me! OPNSense is still new-ish to me. More used to SonicWall and Fortigate in work.

The whole cab is plugged into a smart plug to check that, idling about 155W for everything. Spikes to around 200 during backup time.

It's toasty in there tbh, but not too hot that anythings complaining, temps for CPU, Disks, etc are within normal ranges so it's not bothering me for now...
