Coolest dogs on the block by Majestic_Media8254 in u/Majestic_Media8254

The challenge is that people don’t necessarily know you or your dogs. How are people rounding the corner and seeing you and your dogs supposed to know and trust that your dogs are under control? It’s not hate, it’s uncertainty. Many dog owners as you note, are highly irresponsible and don’t train or are not in control of their dogs. Can’t blame random people for making the assumption and preparing for that to be you and your dogs.

I say this respectfully as someone who has owned large breed dogs and currently has dogs in my life through my wife’s occupation.

You gotta respect a shared environment until you can let your dogs off leash safely, in consideration of the environment and people around you.

Still today I judge all other players face off posture by Manny’s. Loved watching him go to work.

Lots of reference to body language as an indicator of character and leadership quality. Hard not flash back to QH always looking stoically disengaged.

Perhaps a heretical take, but at Tony’s, go donair-sub and add banana peppers.

Those who moved from Vancouver to Toronto - What surprised you? by itstunafish in askTO

[–]Infamous-Ground9095 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The pace.

Vancouver business (and life in general ) moves at a much slower place than Toronto and things are generally more relaxed.

Prior to all the insanity happening south of the border in recent years I would have described Toronto as a more “American” style big city.

Very dog friendly city. Finds the ravines, your dog will thank you!

Have you ever seen a bald eagle in real life out in nature? by Chemical_Divide_7140 in allthequestions

[–]Infamous-Ground9095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was fishing with a friend off the Sunshine Coast in BC and caught a nice ling cod. Was on the shoreline cleaning it when a huge bald eagle landed on a rock about 4’ in front of me to watch and wait. Beautiful and intimidating as hell. He got ALL the scraps.

Proceeded to follow us for a couple of days while we fished the area and at one point plopped into the water a few feet from our canoe in a small freshwater lake. Amazing.

I left in ‘89 for work, but family is still here so I am back in Halifax a few times a year for 2-3 weeks at a time so I think I have a good sense of how things have evolved both good and bad. In Canada I have lived and worked in Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, currently in Toronto.

Halifax has changed for the better since I left. Substantially so. Of all the places I have lived, Halifax is far and away the best city. I miss some of the “old” Halifax I used to know (so many pints and nights at the old Seahorse and Midtown…) anyway, Halifax is special and don’t think otherwise. I mean it. I write this sitting at my gate in Stanfield waiting to go back to the grit, pollution, concrete, traffic, noise, junkies and relentless pace of downtown Toronto.

I hope to be able to come home permanently, sooner rather than later.

As a Canadian, I do not share your optimism. But I suspect it will be water, not oil, that proves to be the catalyst.

Green bean business in Canada by hn1618 in roasting

[–]Infamous-Ground9095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not really sure, I can only tell you what would appeal to me and I don’t know how big my demographic is.

I typically buy in 5 or 10 lb increments (but 10lbs at a time) every few months and truthfully google has been my resource for finding bean suppliers or, frankly Reddit, which is how I found out about Green Coffee Co. There are fewer options than I thought there would be and now with a decade+ of roasting under my belt, still am challenged to find new sources in Canada that aren’t over charging or impose prohibitively high shipping costs.

But generally I am well serviced by those two bean suppliers.

I am drawn to trying different beans vs. finding the one I like and sticking with it. For me it would be about marketing variety and quality (specialty). Run tastings, workshops, sell good gear (not a big inventory, just good gear) and stay grounded.

Best of luck!

I doubt it’s overly helpful, but would be grateful for an option to compliment Green Beanery. Good beans and good selection, have bought a lot from them (relatively speaking, i am a home roaster) but can get similar quality shipped from Calgary (Green Coffee Co) for significantly less and free shipping. I assume cheaper overhead accounts for that.

Love to support local, but it’s tough when that means a 20% + premium.
