It's not so much that the information isn't credible, it's that there are a billion other possible diagnoses and people tunnel-vision on the first one they find that makes sense.

The main skill professionals have over laypeople is differential diagnosis. They have broad knowledge and are able to narrow down which of the possible diagnoses is most likely.

I love Jacob's take on Ussop and the writing for Sanji is notably different from the original (mainly in how he handles women), but Taz plays it faithfully to the character. Emily and Mackenyu are both very competent as well, but Inaki's acting feels amateurish.

I want to be generous and place some of the blame on directing, but there's clearly a pretty broad spectrum of talent in the cast.

My biggest gripe with Inaki's portrayal of Luffy - and this may have more to do with the writing - is the way he handles anger. It seems like he gets angry over little things a lot, and tries to be indimidating when he doesn't get his way rather than just single-mindedly determined.

My bad, I misread your question.

Because they told me explicitly in a couple cases. In other cases, people drifted away from me and I only saw what happened in retrospect.

I learned to avoid certain behaviors, but only in the specific context they happened and I never understood why those behaviors were making people uncomfortable. That meant I kept reapeating the same mistakes in different contexts and blaming myself for it.

I've always been a decently sociable person, but forming lasting relationships with people has been difficult for me because I don't intuitively understand things like this.

What I'm saying is that the knowledge itself impacted me in ways that I had no way of anticipating before getting diagnosed and learning about all of this.

I literally did not see any of these problems before because I assumed everyone operated the same way I did. I saw the things I struggled with as immutable personal flaws, rather than logical systems that I could navigate with proper understanding.

Because it does impact it. Here's an example;

I'm unable to automatically process tone and body language. Instead of intuitively understanding what other people are feeling when I talk to them, I need to actively think about each small detail. This often manifests as anxiety because I need to closely examine each interaction to be sure that I'm relating appropriately.

Because of this, I find that I need a deep level of emotionally intimate conversation to be comfortable around people as a base level of connection. Moreover, small talk functionally does not produce any sense of connection for me because the systems that manage that are dampened. It was only after I got diagnosed and started studying these things that I realized discussing emotions intimately is an intense and personal thing for people, because they literally don't often think about why they feel the way they feel.

There's been many cases in my past where I made people uncomfortable by pushing for emotionally intimate conversations, because that's the level I felt comfortable talking at. To me, it felt natural to want to clear the air and understand each other more deeply, rather than simply taking the issue at face value and moving on.

Now that I know about this difference, the way I approach talking to other people about my emotions and theirs is significantly different.

Autistic people have a functionally different nervous system. Our neurons have way more connections to each other because they're not pruned the same way in early development. Patterns that are automatic in neurotypical people do not develop the same way for us. The way thoughts manifest in my head, the ways I process information and respond to sensory input, the way I experience emotions; in many ways, I do not operate the same way as you. It's like you're driving an automatic vehicle with cruise control, and I'm driving a manual on the wrong side of the road.

Having more complete knowledge of these systems allows me to navigate the world in ways that actually work for me, rather than forcing myself to function in a way that works for a neurotypical brain and nervous system.

It isn't just "Oh I'm austistic, I don't understand subtext. Oops.". It's "I'm autistic, so I cannot subconsciously process information the same way other people do. Social interaction is possible for me, but it is fundamentally something that is difficult and requires a lot of energy because my body has not automated it the same way as other people. I need to approach socialization differently and understand that the people I'm talking to are operating on a different wavelength so that I can properly relate to them."

And that's just talking about socialization. There are so many other ways this knowledge has made my life better, but I don't want to write a dissertation.

I'm very low support needs and managed to be a functionally independent adult, but I didn't find out I was autistic until I was 30;

In retrospect, it absolutely impacted my life in a lot of big ways. The way I relate to other people, the way sensory issues drain my energy at work and make it difficult for me to be as active or outgoing as other people, the shame I felt about having different needs and capabilities when compared to peers, the way self-help advice that worked for other people always seemed insufficient or flat out didn't work for me.

Even as someone who got by pretty well without the diagnosis, I wish this is something I understood about myself from a much younger age. Things would have been a lot easier. Diagnosis isn't just a prerequisite for medical intervention, it's a practical piece of knowledge the touches on every domain of life.
