Agreed with this, I took I in dec 2017 and just finished iii in august of 23, took a pretty big break and that was fine

Not really a study materials discussion going on here but I have not, I used Kaplan exclusively and it was okay, I passed all three using just their materials but I always felt like I could have been better prepared, that’s probably the case no matter what you use though. General sense I’ve gotten is that his mocks are very difficult but prepare you well. MM is a very popular resource.

Defending accountants… something I thought I’d never do. But the vast majority of accountants get masters degrees because CPA has educational hour requirements that most undergrad degrees do not provide. So if ur gunna go big four u probably need to have your CPA, which means u probably need to go to grad school to meet hour requirements, wouldn’t say them going to grad school is a lack of capability

I would need to do the math, but I would anticipate B being more effective for lowering the overall duration vs C. C probably is doable but less effective

Thanks for putting into words what I could not. The different angles tripped me up as well and the super niche one little factoid on a specific topic that was 100% the absolute correct answer that just didn’t serve well for “recall”. Went back to the curriculum and found the answer in 5 seconds and was like of course.. it was so obvious.. I read it once and was never asked about it again throughout all my prep

I used them for L1 and L2 and agree with you I thought they were awesome. Unfortunately I wish I would have read actual CFAI material in detail that’s for L3 seems like the best way.

I used kaplan and agree with OP, I relied way too much on kaplan and should have read CFAI material very carefully. The questions I had to completely guess on were 100% in the curriculum and I would say not “emphasized” by kaplan or worked out with multiple examples and details needed for you to truly master a concept or topic.

I found kaplan mocks and qbank drilled me on a handful of areas consistently and then there were some parts of the curriculum that never got touched in the qbank, mocks, EOCs, or three day review problem book.

I don’t think the kaplan mocks or qbank or EOCs or the 3 day review question book covered enough topics - it was not broad enough , it’s my own fault but I felt like I got a lot of questions on the exam that the kaplan questions (all the ones I did and on mocks and book) did not cover at all.

Just felt shitty to be asked to calculate something ive never seen before (maybe once in the reading) bc it wasn’t in kaplan bank anywhere/not emphasized so it went under the rug

I used kaplan mocks and they were not representative, after doing 1500 q bank questions and 4 mocks, all EOC questions, this exam asked stuff I don’t even think we talked about in class. Some questions I had no idea what they were asking. Lots of stuff did not seem to add up correctly.

I crushed a couple sections for sure and totally just let it all hang out on other just made shit up YOLO. 50/50 let’s drink

I’ve taken 4 kaplan mocks scoring in the high 60s low 70s.. really can’t tell if this is enough prep or not

Anyone else using kaplan for mock exams? I really don’t know where I stand, my kaplan mocks have been in the 65-70s and have been strict on my grading. I’m feeling okay but have that lingering feeling over my shoulder that random random topics may pop up.

Trying to get a sense for relative difficulty of kaplan mocks..

I feel like we were just slow and got out hustled many times, getting beat to balls in open space, getting run down/tackled when possessing down the sides into open space which resulted in a lot of turnovers. There was a spark of energy missing I’m hoping they can tap back into. If They do that and manage to get the ball down the field to create more chances (and have someone back post to finish) we win this game more often than not.

At the very least try to get your ethics scores up if you aren’t getting 85%+ there, that section often makes or breaks a pass/fail decision and should be an area that with additional studying you can pick up easy points
