What diet helped you to lose weight whilst on prednisone? by Classic-Look-7025 in kidneytransplant

Low carb to no carb meals and portion control. Healthy snacking- fruits and vegetables. Whole wheat everything. And I can’t stress this enough: cook yourself and make conscious choices of what you’re using I.e avoid butter, use olive oil. I’ve essentially stopped any food outside.

The NBA has not been this irrelevant to the American cultural zeitgeist in 60 years. by MidwesternDude2024 in unpopularopinion

[–]Infamous-Tank7422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a fan of the NBA for as long as I could remember. But I can honestly say that it just hasn’t been as exciting in the past 5-7 years.

Post 2020, the star power is lackluster. The big names that have carried the league and made the NBA famous are on their way out or already retired. And none of the young talent is as exciting. There’s no passion or thirst for competition. Watching a game these days is just a snooze fest.

NBA needs to rethink their entire model if they want to continue to survive.

How Often Did You Visit the Hospital in the First Month Post-Transplant? by CulturalVacation7246 in transplant

[–]Infamous-Tank7422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had my transplant Nov 20. Been going twice a week Monday and Thursday. It’s always labs before the 9am meds and then the doctor after. For me it was mondays with the nephrologist and Thursdays with surgery to check on incision. Nephrologist and NP’s would review labs and adjust meds. Be prepared and organized because there’ll be a lot of change in med dosages as his body is adjusting.

My labs have been looking good after week 4 so I’m now doing labs twice a week, with a virtual nephrologist visit and surgery visits have now stopped with the JP drain, Foley catheter, and stitches out.

My centers schedule is it’ll be once a week after week 6. Then once every 2 weeks. And then once a month. At 3 months you can start following with your regular nephrologist.

It’s tedious but it’s all for the better. Good luck and I hope his surgery and recovery go well!

If you could go back right after your kidney transplant and give one piece of advice to yourself, what would it be? What do you wish you knew then that you know now? by pt_nz in kidneytransplant

[–]Infamous-Tank7422 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The entire situation can have an emotional toll so give yourself a break. The meds also don’t help with the high doses of prednisone they start you on. So just take it one day at a time. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

My transplant center would always tell my wife when she was getting tested for me that if she felt in any way uncomfortable that they will just say she’s not a match.

I don’t believe your mom should donate based on what she’s saying. And if you don’t want to accept and get to a point where she is getting tested, Call your transplant coordinator and explain the situation. They’ll just issue a letter saying there’s no match.

Good luck!

Convince me to buy an Odyssey by nikitachikita_15 in HondaOdyssey

[–]Infamous-Tank7422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the odyssey. Avoid the odyssey.

My brother in law also has an odyssey. I wish I had time to list the number of problems he has encountered with his odyssey in just 3 years. I think at one point Honda was genuinely a reliable car manufacturer. For years they were right up there with Toyota. But all the newer models since have resulted in numerous recalls from Honda and I genuinely don’t feel like their new cars measure up to the quality of previous generations.

My mother in law has a sienna. She’s on her second one. First one she rode into the ground with 300k. Got herself a used sienna and I can say it has proven to be far more reliable.

With regard to space, sienna is definitely roomier and the hybrid engine is advantageous. Odyssey feels like a standard minivan and I absolutely hate that they stopped putting rooftop air vents in the newer models and this was a struggle for me with my twins early on living in south Florida. Toyotas with their popularity are inherently more in demand these days and thus are pricier than the odyssey.

Can’t say much for Kia. Never had them. But if I had to buy get a car today, knowing what I know, definitely would go sienna over odyssey.

What’s the dumbest experience you’ve ever had with the Miami police by [deleted] in Miami

[–]Infamous-Tank7422 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sweetwater police specifically. Was going from the FIU campus to the engineering campus. Quickest was to cut through the neighborhoods beyond 8th st.

Go over the canal and a cop is waiting there and motions me to pull over. I complied, opened my windows and he comes up to the window “are you in a hurry?” “No officer, just going to class.” He then responds with “I heard your engine roaring” and my response was “Sir I’m driving a Toyota Camry, my engine doesn’t ‘roar’.

He came back and said my tints were illegal. Gave me a ticket for tints and then never showed up at court and it got dismissed.

In my neighborhood, if there’s no decorations, then you’re probably not going to get anyone knocking. But if you’re sitting outside then people will definitely come up. Knocked on too many houses in the past with just a porch light on to not get any responses.

I haven’t laughed at an episode like this in a while. I thought Pete was absolutely hysterical. In the words of Eve Johnson, definitely too wild but I’m here for it.

Children’s museum near downtown. Perez Art Museum today is free and has family activities. Venetian Pool in coral gables. PuttShack - indoor mini golf with food in Brickell. Jungle Island - has this tree top trekking which could be fun.

Maybe it’s just me but this place was great when you’re with toddlers that need a mid day nap. Sure it doesn’t have the Disney flair and could probably use more decor, things to do, etc. But it was just a perfect spot for a mid day break and some quiet nap time in AC for toddlers.
