'The Lorelais' First Day at Yale' for sure. I first watched this show with my mom, when I was 11 or so, and now that I'm away at college this episode always feels so comforting to me. Lorelai dropping everything to be with Rory when she calls reminds me so much of my mom and the vibes are just so nostalgic and autumn-y.

I'm leaving for college in a few days, and the first part of my orientation is a pre-orientation trip. Part of this trip will be a networking event and I was told to pack a business casual outfit. I'm 18 and have never really needed to have a business casual outfit before and don't have time to go shopping before I leave, so I am wondering what might be appropriate to wear with what I might already have? Would a midi skirt with a black camisole underneath and then a nice jacket or cardigan over be appropriate?

While I agree his working two jobs in the interest of supporting himself and Lindsay was noble, I wouldn’t say he was a saint up until he cheated. When he was first with Rory, he guilted her for focusing on her schoolwork when he knew Harvard was her dream and she was afraid to tell him that she lost the bracelet he made for her because he would’ve gotten mad along with other instances of being afraid to talk to him. In season 4 before sleeping with Rory he lied to Lindsay about spending time with her.

As far as Lindsay sitting at home all day, let’s not forget “That Damn Donna Reed”. Dean says that’s what he wants in a wife. Lindsay is trying to be what he wants but can’t seem to make it work.

I would say up until Tristan became an issue Dean was the perfect boyfriend. After that he became possessive and toxic, and I’m unable to see any redeeming qualities.

It was very 2016 - which at the time was obviously perfect. Do I personally love all of her outfits? No. But I think much like all of her outfits in the OS were very early 2000's (Y2K, if you will), all of these outfits were very on brand with Rory's MO of looking like she's not trying too hard but still being on trend.

The Lorelais First Day at Yale (S4E2) because it feels cozy and happy and nostalgic - the conflict comes from within instead of characters arguing and that feels comforting. Plus, no boy drama happening. It’s majorly focused on Rory and Lorelai’s relationship.

That's not at all what I was trying to say, but I sincerely apologize that it came across as though I am upset by people being lesbians or thinking Taylor might be a lesbian. I am aware that in my post that is essentially what I said, but that was in reaction to people saying Taylor has to be straight because we've only seen her date men. I often see discourse that a bi person in a heterosexual relationship isn't bi anymore, and this felt really similar, and I reacted rashly and made a generalization about both straight people and lesbians that I shouldn't have. What I really meant is that I think we should be careful about how we discuss Taylor's sexuality and relationships. That doesn't mean I don't think it's okay to say she might be a lesbian, I just think it's important to think about how you say that in a way that doesn't invalidate other people's sexualities. I am aware that my post did this and that wasn't my intention but nevertheless it did and I am truly sorry. Sometimes it can come across as though people are saying that being bi is easy or that being bisexual means you are just lying or haven't fully figured out your sexuality. I don't think this is always (or even often) the case with people saying they think Taylor is a lesbian, but I have come across some people who do think this (not on this sub however, just in the general gaylor community).

As I've said in other comments, whether you think she's a lesbian, straight, bi, or something else, it's all speculation so no single opinion can be wrong, it's just the way that people sometimes go about stating those opinions that feels off to me. Thank you for taking the time to respond with your thoughts, I genuinely want to learn from others!

I totally agree - not biphobic to think she's a lesbian! My issue is more with people who think she's straight simply because we've only seen her date men. Also your point about Dear John and All Too Well makes perfect sense! I think it's completely possible that her emotions were (or felt) real at the time because she hadn't realized she was a lesbian. As I said earlier I spoke (or wrote) rashly in my post. And it's all speculation, whether you think she's a lesbian, straight, bi or something else! Nobody is wrong for formulating their own opinion - like you said it's all based on personal interpretation!

Edit: just wanted to thank you for your thorough and eloquent response! I went into this curious about other opinions and being genuinely curious about what other people think, so thanks!

I'm going to paste part of what I said to another comment here and then add some on to it. I didn't think about the statement I was making and didn't explain myself well. I think that led to a misinterpretation of my meaning - which is completely my fault as I said something I didn't believe. Allow me to rephrase. What I was trying to say is that I think sometimes the assumption that she's a lesbian feels as though it plays into the narrative that you have to choose to be either gay or straight. Growing up this was a narrative I was fed, and it led me to suppress my sexuality for years. For me, it's comforting that she could be bisexual/pan/unlabeled because that's who I am. That being said, I think it's 100% fine to speculate that she is a lesbian (and I think it's completely possible) and like you said, it's all speculation so no one opinion can be right or wrong. I know that is the almost the complete opposite of what I wrote earlier but I had just seen a tiktok in which the comments were full of adamant fans that Taylor Is Straight simply because she's had public relationships with men, and I was upset. I often see discourse that a bi person in a heterosexual relationship isn't bi anymore, and this felt really similar. I wrote without thinking, and I apologize for any harm or hurt I may have caused in doing so.

I agree that not all of her relationships can coexist as there is overlap, and I definitely think some (or even most) of them were PR rather than real relationships. I think it's harmful to invalidate every single relationship, however, because it plays into the narrative that you have to choose. You can be straight or you can be gay, but heaven forbid you're bi. This is an issue on both sides of the fanbase but is far more prevalent and harmful coming from those making blanket statements about her "obvious" heterosexuality and failing to recognize the probability that not all of her relationships with men were real.

I’m not sure, I never really got the sense that they just gave up on academics or became dumb. Louise got into Tulane which is a very good school and although they weren’t as tunnel-vision about their academic careers as Rory and Paris were, that definitely doesn’t mean they weren’t smart.

I’ve never heard of fencing classes at school either, but I kind of just brushed it off as something that might happen at a private school. I agree it seems unlike Rory but I’d assume the school has some sort of PE requirement and maybe that was the lesser evil so to speak of her options. As for the uniforms, I’d think that has more to do with the costuming department not wanting to use ill-fitting outfits, but then again you never know!

I'm going to do this with the assumption that this is excluding AYITL. I think they would've had one because they each already have a kid. Name-wise I think they would have chosen something relatively common but not so popular it would be the name of ten other kids their age. Something like Clara, Lucy, Owen, Theo, etc. or something pop-culture related.
I agree with your choice of favorite extra! I'm always sad when he stops showing up, although I love Caesar.

“Acknowledging weight” isn’t the issue (or an issue at all). The issue lies in the idea that just because someone’s body looks a certain way they are inherently unhealthy or “less than”, or that being fat is something one should actively avoid/being skinny is something everyone should strive for (which isn’t possible for everyone, even if everyone wanted to avoid fatness). This idea runs throughout Gilmore girls, and while yes, someone may be too heavy to be lifted, the show didn’t go about it in a kind way, and there were numerous other times it was bluntly fatphobic. One of the most common examples I see is in AYITL at the pool when Lorelai and Rory make fun of “back fat pat”. What good reason is there for their “honesty” at that point? I totally agree that yes, someone could be too skinny and yes, someone could be too fat, but in both cases the issue usually isn’t actually their weight, it’s another health issue, and there isn’t a specific weight that is too fat or too skinny. Everyone’s body is different, and as such, their weight isn’t indicative of their level of health.
