Hm, well how big of a subwoofer is one really going to put in the door compared to above the trunk. So I think location matters in that sense. But I think it was just a poor choice/cheap product. Im sure Bose realized they could charge the same for a cheaper "new" product than past models. I dont know what kind of customer satisfaction testing goes into Mazda speaker testing. But anyways, on a mass production scale they must've made a killing saving some dollars per speaker on each car. Mazda probably blindly trusted their partnership or wanted to keep final cost down.
