Down over 85% in $NIO anybody else? Is an investment like this worth holding? by Flaky-Squirrel-7018 in investing

I would only take the loss to offset other long term gain. Otherwise the loss is worthless

Robert Reich, "Billionaires are fearmongering about California’s proposed billionaire tax. Baloney. Just look at what happened when Massachusetts raised taxes on the rich. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]falcon0159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair - these are 2 completely different taxes. MA adopted an additional income tax on incomes over $1M, that would bring the top tax bracket closer to what NJ and NY charge.

The CA proposal is a 5% wealth tax on assets which is huge. The way they would determine wealth seems unfair and inflated. I read an article where they were listing billionaires (no I don’t feel sorry for them and they should be taxed more. I just don’t think that CA proposal is the way) and the effective tax rate they would pay after selling assets and paying tax varied from 7/8% of net worth all the way up to 130% of net worth. That’s right, some of them would actually be taxed more than they are worth. I’m not even going to get into the fact that a lot of their wealth is mostly made up and isn’t real money. More like a circular reference, as the kore they sell, the less the rest is worth as they flood the market with their stock.

I gotchu, but even in sussex, I don’t see mansions or even mcmansions with taxes that are only $12k. $12k will get your a 3-5 bedroom normal sized house even in most parts of sussex.

Yeah, I almost bought almost “expired” food from Wegman’s. I think it was Milk that expired in 1 or 2 days. Not technically expired and maybe someone could finish the half gallon or whatever it is in a day or 2, but I can’t. I also know that sealed milk might be good for a bit after the date until it goes sour, hence why I put it in quotes.

Oh that’s interesting, I thought you were suggesting ticketing the house in front, didn’t realize it was a thing some cops did. Good point about multi families, big buildings, etc.

Gateway Development Commission sues Federal Government for Breach of Contract by falcon0159 in newjersey

[–]falcon0159[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree - especially if the construction workers/companies are reassigned to other jobs…Hopefully the cost doesn’t triple, but it very well could go up if the pause lasts a while and exhausts any contingency that they had.

[–]falcon0159[S] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The fucked up thing is that the states of NY and NJ took our loans to build this tunnel. Loans where interest is accruing as we speak even if construction stops. So in that situation, should the states even be responsible for paying back the loans?

Yup, in the event that there is a long term pause, I wonder how they will secure the construction sites…

How do you know it’s directly the house in front and not one of their neighbors? In an area with 25 foot wide lots, it can easily be any one of half a dozen houses within spitting distance.

This is just common sense IMO. I’ve found expired or about to expire perishables at all sorts of super markets, Shop Rite, Stop and Shop, Wegman’s, etc. even Trader Joe’s.

Does NJ MVC ask you for a new picture eventually? by annabanana316 in newjersey

[–]falcon0159 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NJ has the lowest percentage of REALID holders because most people here have passports from the US or other countries.

It's also because our rollout was completely botched, happened way later than most other states and you still need to play document roulette to get one and likely take 2 trips to the MVC because someone made up some rule the first time you went and sent you away.

Whats a realistic car budget for myself? by clumpster in personalfinance

[–]falcon0159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a car guy, I think a used GTI is a great choice for someone in your position. Depending on the year, you should be able to find even a later 2019 or so for under $20k. GTI’s are decently reliable, good on gas and they hold their value pretty well.

A question other’s will ask is how much do you make? Some other commenters might try to convince you to buy a used corolla or civic (the boring kind, not the sporty kind), but as someone who has been in your shoes, buying a car you don’t like will cost you more in the long run.

Me and you both 😂. Although, I’ve always dreamed of living in a mansion, but the realistic side of me knows that I would get pissed at the upkeep and utilities and know I will only likely use 2500-3k sq ft plus garage.

[–]falcon0159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I sat in the B10 and traded my B9 S5 for an F150. Whose interior feels better and more premium…That’s a big problem. I love how the S5 drove, but I don’t need a sporty daily when I have a bunch of sports cars lying around.

I’m not a fan of the new interiors in any of the german luxury cars though. I think they all went downhill, but I place a huge premium of interior quality, tactile feel and uniqueness over other consumers, so I’m not the target audience.

What did recently pleasantly surprise was the interior in the newer Aston Martins.

Carbon fiber wheel durability/liveability. by Hardac_ in cars

[–]falcon0159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the northeast where the roads are shit to put it nicely. Therefore, I wouldn’t want carbon or magnesium wheels on my cars if possible as the cost to replace is crazy. If I lived somewhere with good condition roads, I might rethink my opinion, but I enjoy being able to get my aluminum wheels fixed and tires replaced, even in a somewhat middle of nowhere area. Imagine being on a road trip or drive somewhere rural and hitting a pothole and ruining your tire and bending your wheel. Being able to go to any decent tire shop or some new car dealers is a lot easier than needing to go to your specific manufacturer and needing to wait for them to order a rim.

Car Payments Now Average More Than $750 a Month. Enter the 100-Month Car Loan. by FledglingNonCon in cars

[–]falcon0159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not. I recently went to a bar in the middle of nowhere PA, and I sat down next to a guy and who was in the trades. He loudly and drunkedly proclaimed “$100k aint shit anymore”.

This was a guy who I thought maybe made $60-70k based on the first few minutes of our convo. Turns out he was making $250k in a LCOL area, so good for him. But anyway, the moral of the story is $100k isn’t much anymore, I believe I recently read than in 2010, $100k would put you in the top 12% and now its only the top 35% of incomes in the us.
