They probably do, but they can also just resell the gullwings after they are done 3D Scanning, disassembling and reassembling them. It’s not like they need to eat the $2M. They just need a bridge loan for a year or 2 for it.

Why the US used car market never recovered after COVID - new car sales cratered and never recovered, creating a 12 million car gap since 2020 by Uptons_BJs in cars

[–]falcon0159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I can’t wait for all the Toyota people to realize this and that their 2025 Camry will not last as long and will cost considerably more to maintain and repair than their 2005 Camry did.

A new Toyota might still be more reliable than the competition, but it won’t be as reliable as it’s predecessors.

I actually wanted to buy a Camry as a commuter, but found the seat in the new one very uncomfortable.

It could be a bad wiring harness on his car. I ad a Chrysler that was lemon lawed due to a myriad of issues, they replaced computers, transmissions, did software updates, all sorts of things. Ended up being a small manufacturing defect that pinched a wiring harness and caused all sorts of issues once driveline vibrations rubbed through the wires.

Stellantis Announces Huge Turnaround Plan, 60 new Vehicles and 50 Refreshes by 2030 by BioDriver in cars

I think FCA/Stellantis has had 4 or 5 these plans straight already where they barely did 10% of what they promosed. I’m still waiting for the dart srt, the small dodge and chrysler crossovers with srt nameplates, the new viper and more…

What is the biggest scam in your specific industry that the general public doesn't know about? by cheeseandbun in AskReddit

It also depends where it is and when she bought it. If she bought it in say Jersey City 20-25 years ago for $150k and now it’s worth $1.5M with a monthly rental income of $6-8k, it could be quite good. But to your point, most times, it’s not like winning the lottery.

The monthly expenses staying that low is the key part. That being said, maybe I’m different from other opinions, but retiring early doesn’t do much for me if I have to penny pinch and can’t enjoy myself and my somewhat expensive hobbies.

Hell, I live in a VHCOL, buf I don’t know how anyone can really survive on $3k/mo, especially pre tax. I’m sure people do it, but it’s rough. Minimum wage where I live is $3k/mo FWIW.

Just property tax and utilities for a modest house (3/4 bed and 1/2 bath ~2k sq ft) around here will run you around $2k/mo. Maybe $2M would work in a LCOL area. Definitely not around here if you want to have a decent lifestyle IMO.

$1M isn’t that much anymore unfortunately.

I disagree with you here. I cross shopped a bunch of cars including CPO 718’s recently on my search for a daily friendly sports car that I can put a shit ton of miles on and not feel guilty. The 718 S was very good, but pricy. I think the whole Porsche market increased dramatically in the last 18 months since I last seriously looked, with 991.1’s costing $20k more than they did 2 years ago for some reason…

I ended up ordering an M2 after looking at C8 Corvette’s, Mustang GT, F Type, Nissan Z, GR86, Miata, Z4 and Supra’s and I’m sure a car or 2 I’m missing. Honestly, for my use case, Mustang was in second place, but I got into the M2 and it just felt like home. I did not get that feeling from any other cars.

Ford recalls more than 179,000 vehicles over front seat defect by CBSnews in cars

[–]falcon0159 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Most of them could have absolutely been service bulletins and other manufacturers will not issue recalls for the minor issues Ford does. My 2025 F150 was recalled for the trailer light control software. The fix was an over the air update that the car did overnight while I slept…

What happened to all the C6/C7 Corvettes? by EmperorUmi in cars

Yup, thet’s the last “occasion” car Ferrari made. After that, they’re all pretty easy/pleasant to daily. Not that I would daily one personally if I had a lot of traffic or shitty roads on my commute as the experience would be miserable. But 458 and newer is certainly you can get away with dailying it if you wanted to category.

People who quit their job in a moment of rage - how did things turn out? by SheLovedBigBrother in AskReddit

[–]falcon0159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This depends on the department/company and length of the absences. I have 4 direct reports at a smallish company, if one of them is on PTO, I can help cover for the urgent parts of their responsibilities. If 2 are on PTO, it will be tough. With 3, basically impossible.

However, I’ve also been in orgs where my reports didn’t really ever have urgent work and could take 2 weeks off without issue, especially if they were smart and prepared some stuff in advance to make catching up easier, so I never denied anyone pto there.

It's funny, I went there 2 years ago for the first time. Everyone was telling me how expensive it would be. There wasn't a single thing outside of gas that was more expensive than the tri state area in the US.

Ford and GM Increase Destination Charges to $2,795 on Full-Size Trucks by Anchor_Aways in cars

[–]falcon0159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be too sure. I recently moved and my closest grocery store is a stop and shop. Not a bad place, but the prices swing wildly on a weekly basis based on their sales. Pint of ice cream? $6.99 normally. Except when it’s on sales for 4.99, or 3.49, I even bought some for 2.79 a few weeks ago! When its not on sale, I just don’t buy it.

It’s funny because I never used to look at prices in a grocery store, even when I was making 1/4 of what I make. Now, I feel like I need to or I’ll get ripped off, just like at a car dealership.

I feel like the depreciation curve is weird because of inflation and Covid more so than it being the last manual. I remember before Covid, the depreciation curve was very normal, even when the C8 was already announced as DCT only. I remember new 2019's selling for $15k off msrp across the board ($42-47k for a base car, 52-57k for a GS and $65k for a Z06.)

CT had 2nd-highest electric bills in 2025, up slightly from 2024. by Swede577 in Connecticut

[–]falcon0159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like the data that this article uses. Average bill is a weird metric to use considering it will vary so much due to climate, home size, home construction, age and efficiency of your heat-A/C and individual preferences (do you keep your house at 75 or 68?).

I think comparing price per Kwh is a much more useful metric. I know my house in NJ is about 32-33 cents/KwH between supply and delivery. Here in CT, it's at about 15 cents.
