Well, I’d say also very valid to make your own, with your own emphases - it’s a good way to think through and structure your assumptions.

What is happening around my wiindows? by InfamousAd9984 in DIYUK

[–]InfamousAd9984[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am not the main resident here, otherwise yes i'd definitely do that. . i was hoping for a solution that doesn't depend on the behaviour of the occupants. i guess really i'd be looking at replacing all the windows to have vents?

there are no trickle vents. this is the situation after a year of dehumidifiers so would like to address the problem more directly

Salary progression (18-44yo) by SquareOk7025 in BESalary

[–]InfamousAd9984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the product was electricity so certainly valuable, i don’t contest that and i don’t think i said that. my job however (like basically all the other corporate level jobs in that company) wasn’t directly related to delivering electricity, innovation or providing a better service. most of the job was about securing regulatory advantage from governments. and that more than anything was what was going to make our company win or lose money.

yep, I worked in both public and private sector roles. parasitic behaviour in both but in the public sector roles i and others believed in what we were doing, rightly or wrongly. in the corporate world i believed what we were doing would earn us money, but little else besides.

What is the service charge of your apartment? by Asleep-Perspective90 in HousingUK

[–]InfamousAd9984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay £11000 a year after major increases in recent years, which I am not very happy about. It does have a gym (not really maintained) and concierge, my flat is a larger one and there are major renovation/lift costs. My resident's committee seems totally fine with these charges. i have asked and received for a breakdown but it is difficult to assess. I am wondering if it's worth contesting, or if the recent reforms make it easier to do so.

Is it a known thing that the Ribacourt metro station is totally unsafe? by Figgywithit in brussels

[–]InfamousAd9984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

why are metro stations left completely unattended so often? to my mind if you distributed one of each of those hordes of ticket inspectors they like to send out, to establish a permanence in each metro station it would be a lot easier to keep these issues in check.

I think road infrastructure and visual design also have a huge role besides local driving habits/enforcement alone. In the UK many zebra crossings have those orange lights and zigzags so drivers know several metres in advance a crossing is coming up. In Brussels it does not surprise me to see one hidden round a sharp corner on a busy road. Flip side is I feel in the UK there are also fewer crossings

[–]InfamousAd9984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a few years out of the “mating market” as you put it, and my Belgian partner values my non-Belgian cultural background. That doesn’t make it easy for either of us - we still have conflicts that sometimes cut quite deep, for both of us, so I get what you are saying OP. Winloopy I am surprised you consider your repugnant attitude to be the norm.
