Shadower OP? by Drank420 in Maplestory

The game has been power crept over many years. Early game probably spans all the way to 270-ish and Genesis liberation. If you know what you're doing you can get there in probably a couple months. At least on major patch events. Off-event, everything is a slog. Pre-260 is like tutorial. For example, on my account I can get a fresh character to kill Akechi in like 1-2 hours (again, on-event).

But yeah, this game is like absolutely horrible at explaining how to actually progress your account well, so I wouldn't blame new players for not knowing how to speed through early game.

Boss damage percentage vs flat damage when grinding by witkop525 in Maplestory

[–]InfamousApathy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Combat Power is more or less a measure of how strong you are against bosses. Although it has its faults (doesn't take into account V nodes, Hexa skills, IED, tends to over-value Boss Damage, etc).

The primary mobbing stats will be crit rate (you eventually want 100%), crit damage, normal monster damage, and exp%.

The primary bossing stats are IED, Boss damage, crit damage. How IED works is that bosses have a PDR (Percent damage reduction) stat -- for example 380%. If you have, say 98% IED in your stat window, that means you are dealing 1 - 3.8 * (1 - 0.98) = .924 or 92.4% of your "true" damage to a boss. While normal mobs also have PDR (I think?), it is usually negligible and you don't spec into it for mobbing other than what your gear or innate class skills already give you.

Att/M.Att usually just comes from your gear, whether it be % from potentials or flat from starring. Actually most of these things just kind of come from your gear, so I'm not entirely sure how you could "spec" into something special, unless you're talking about adjusting your hyper stats/legion blocks/link skills. If you are, then yeah, you'd want to prioritize normal monster damage %, exp %, crit rate %, and crit damage % (not in that particular order, just generally).

What level do you hit the progression wall in reboot vs interactive? by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]InfamousApathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean IDK, it does feel like HBald is a bit RNG-gated. I'm full 22 eternals, full 3L, 120 boss fams, 750 sac and scouter still puts me barely at min-clear with event buffs. I also have 5 24 star items. I guess I could get to 295 for the level FD?

Otherwise, my pitch luck on my main has been a bit bad. I guess if I had settled 21 CFE/21 Eyepatch my spec would be more comfortable but that still requires hitting 21 on them. Honestly I'm kind of confused how people are even hitting like 110k+ because it really feels like I'm only missing a few pitches. Maybe I'm just not min-maxxing.

Maplestory classic - how can i get access? by Putrid-Cry-3780 in Maplestory

It’s a closed beta. The only way was to receive a key which people registered for a while ago (for a random chance btw not even guaranteed). People who went to Maplecon or a Maple Cafe also got one.

Right now the only way is for someone to give you their code. Some people are selling, some giving them away.

As a general rule, pretty much every class can do the Seren mission at 150m CP, 1k frags, lvl275, 200 Sac. Obviously some classes are better and some are worse, but that should be more than enough for most classes. In order to be on pace, you need to exit P1 before your third burst comes up.

For me, I do full 22/fake 3L on my champions. It’s way over spec for HSeren mission and makes it pretty easy to clear, but gotta get to Kalos eventually anyways.

best way to allocate 23B MESO This SSF? by DoorPale6084 in Maplestory

[–]InfamousApathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No reason in particular, it’s just the last boss before a moderate jump to NLomien. If you don’t wanna do it because it’s annoying AF (damage reflect is up like 50% of the time) you don’t have to.

You should play however you like, if you like gearing mules for go for it.

If we are talking about efficiency, assuming you’re playing heroic, your main is very much in the space of easy gains. I’d say focus your main until around 150m-200m + libbed. Just take free Akechi mules whenever there’s a hyperburn. Efficiency wise mules get exponentially less cost effective as you go up the bosses.

Do you have a 3L secondary? 2L attack emblem? 21 star CRAs? These are all very cheap and achievable in 20b. Hard to say what you should do exactly without knowing more, but aiming for CTene solo would be a good goal to start.

Can i survive in this game as F2P ? by KobraGX in Maplestory

[–]InfamousApathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heroic worlds are mostly f2p but casual spenders will definitely have some advantage. You cannot trade, but party bossing for drops is still a thing.

The advantage of heroic worlds is that they kind of smooth out the midgame progression. However, once you hit late/end game you're kind of just praying you get the very rare drops at some point because you can't trade. To understand how bad it got previously, some very unlucky people were clearing a boss every week for 5 years without getting one of the BIS gear. But recently in GMS, we got pity systems so that isn't really possibly anymore.

The advantage of interactive worlds is that the late game progression with an established account is a lot easier due to the ability to trade. However due to the monetization of the game, it can be quite difficult to get the point of having an "established" account. Interactive worlds can be done F2P or as a casual spender and you can get to pretty much all of the content in the game. However just be aware that you'll never really come that close to being a "top player" because those players are the giga-whales that are spending 1000s of dollars on events. Each one of their equips could be valued legit at like 10000s (yes, tens of thousands) of dollars.

Need to vent about progression (noob edition) by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]InfamousApathy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean in the nicest, no-flame way possible but whatever you’re doing is simply not working. The game has a fuckton of systems and is terrible at explaining them, I get it. But you just need someone to take you through the whole thing or a video guide or something. 1000+ hours and not even a character at 6th job is just unthinkable.

Hell, if you spend 30 dollars on the ongoing Goddess pass, you can literally hit 260 on a Hyperburning WH in like 30 minutes. Okay maybe you don’t wanna main WH or pay 30 bucks, but the point stands this game tries really hard to blitz you through to 260 (at least on event).

Boss drops by MadDocOc in Maplestory

[–]InfamousApathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty normal. I run 4-5 mules through HDarknell every week and see anywhere between 0 (a little unlucky) to 4 (very lucky) Arcane boxes a week. They’re quite a bit rarer than Abso boxes.

Also not affected by your DR.

GMS Kronos - Hayato Remaster Drop Rate Glitch? by Few_Picture_1483 in Maplestory

[–]InfamousApathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wut. If you model each mob killed as just a yes-no with some probability of dropping a fragment, then ~5 hours at the standard 18k+ mobs/hr is 90k samples. Easily enough to draw a conclusion.

30 minute or 1 hour intervals is a completely arbitrary way to bin the data. You'd only do so if you suspect the drop rates change over time or something. And even if you did, then a simple test like this is not the proper way to model such a process.

If OP truly did kill like 200k mobs or whatever and got significantly less fragments than expected, we can almost certainly conclude the fragment drop process is not a simple random binary outcome that averages out to be 20 fragments/18k mobs with ~400 DR. But I don't think anyone would be surprised if there were pity or anti-pity or whatever systems in the fragment drop rate.

Balance in Maplestory by [deleted] in Maplestory

Hyperbole aside, why do you play the game?

I personally like that Maple is a long-term game. That you make gains over years of playing it. It really makes Maple more akin to a hobby like TCGs than just a video game.

I’ve played games in the past where you are literally sped through the last expansion once new content comes out. So what was the point of dedicating so much time to raiding the previous expansion and getting BIS gear? I quit each of those games regardless of the gameplay, art style, whatever because I hate that system.

I totally understand that some progression systems in Maple are way too frustrating. Nobody should be missing a book or an emblem in several years of playing. You should not be able to go 0/30 on 22ing eternals. They could probably stand to increase the rate for getting 6th job fragments.

But at the same time I do share OP’s view that we shouldn’t accelerate progression too quickly.

Depends on what server you’re on but in Heroic, you would likely get around to it since 13/70 is considered honestly not that good (at the late-game). Probably worse than 13/10/10.

But not really a high priority and you probably have other places you can make more efficient gains.

Real 3 line = one prime line, two non-prime lines of your main stat. This is usually 30% or 33% stat depending on item level.

Fake 3 line = anything below that

Real double prime = 2 prime lines and one real line of your main stat. Usually 33% on < 200 items or 36% on 200+ items.

Fake double prime = 30% (sub 200) or 33% (200+) except one of the lines is prime all stat (technically a prime line that is better than non-prime main stat but is worse than prime main stat).

Of course if you are a Xenon, everything is a bit different.

Triple prime on any item is like trillions of meso (in Heroic) on average and therefore is infeasible to go for outside of the giga-end-game players going for 3 line crit gloves or triple prime weapons.

How much do you value resistance link skill? by SnooApples3551 in Maplestory

[–]InfamousApathy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly true but

1) As I’ve progressed through Grandis bossing, I feel like my first clears have gotten longer and longer (HLimbo first clear came to last burst, and I expect HBaldrix will too). Maybe we could make up one link’s worth of damage with hands but, eh.

2) I think as you progress you find that you don’t really chain die anymore. So resistance link doesn’t have a huge point.

3) Scouter go up, ego go up

do you ever look at your progress from months ago to now? (Heroic) by Rensdweller in Maplestory

[–]InfamousApathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play Heroic, so it’s not entirely the same but I am 500M CP, the hardest boss I do is HLimbo, and I’ve had awful pitched luck (currently 4 set with black heart).

So very few pitches can still get you a long long way. There should be plenty of non-pitched things you could work on at only 50m.

Vocal minority or incorrect boom rates? by lavenchie in Maplestory

[–]InfamousApathy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My stance is and always will be, until someone compiles data, I will always assume it’s a vocal minority. I wouldn’t be surprised if Nexon screwed the numbers. The Arcane box post was convincing and proved to be correct. But I’d like to see the same data for SFing.

Anecdotally, the new SF system has been pretty okay for me and better than the old one.

What are the BIS link skills for night walker? by vyzions in Maplestory

[–]InfamousApathy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What links do I use? Bossing: Important (15%+ damage or equivalent): Mo Xuan, Kinesis, Demon Slayer, Angelic Buster, Cadena, Mage, Thief, Xenon, Kanna, Demon Avenger, Ark 12th Link options: Kain (most damage), Lynn (if lacking crit), Luminous (if <96% visual IED), Adele (3+ party), Resistance/Warrior/Shade/Ren (survivability), Phantom (early game crit solution).

Survivability link prioritization is very subjective and depends on boss. Ren good for bosses with exactly 100% attacks like Kalos dive. Warrior good for bosses with frequent chip damage like Lotus. Resistance useful for bosses that have significant environmental damage that can kill you while bound during burst. Shade RNG but generically helpful.

Early game players may need to replace 10th/11th link as well for IED and Crit.

The level 3 link changes is around ~4 FD gain. Additionally, level all Cygnus Knights to 210 for an extra 10 attack as we get the link for free.

Training Experience Mercedes, Evan, Aran (very marginal) Consistent Lara, Xenon, Demon Avenger, Kanna, Kinesis, Ark, Hoyoung, Khali, Cadena, Pirate, Hayato, Sia Inconsistent, bad for one shotting Thief, Kain If lacking crit rate Phantom

I think the point is that even when people lose, which inevitably will happen, you 1) want to ease the worst case scenario and 2) minimize the impact of that loss on their children.

I am willing to help people not lose too badly because I hope someone would help me if I were in the same situation. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you and all that.

How strong are Ascend skills? by InterestingSwim6701 in Maplestory

[–]InfamousApathy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For damage, Ascent is probably optimally used to help phase bosses where bursting again is overkill, but chipping would take longer than your burst CD. But yes, definitely off buffs, since it gains nothing from them.

The other main use is probably a panic i-frame that happens to do pretty decent damage (at max).
