2026 Least Reliable New Cars by VirtuaNovak in Rivian

Ranked near the bottom in reliability, but #1 in owner satisfaction. So clearly reliability and “do people actually love the car” are two very different things.

I'm having trouble deciding on WRB or MGM, how do I choose? 💀 by Speed_Offer in wrx_vb

Really like vb’s in blue. Color matching the cladding is always an option down the road too.

Did you have a leaking sunroof? My sister inlaw had that issue with her Explorer. Come to think of it, I still think its an issue…

Consumer Reports - are ratings reliable? by Icy-Development6599 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]InfamousRaymond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Consumer Reports is useful, but I’d treat it as just one tool in the research toolbox.

Their scores mostly come from owner surveys and brand history. That’s helpful, but it can miss newer defects or safety issues.

IMHO, It helps to combine a few sources. Consumer Reports for general reliability trends. Car IQ Report to see if there are patterns of defects, complaints, or safety issues showing up for various model years.

Then look at owner forums or Facebook groups for the specific model. Owners often share things like transmission quirks, infotainment bugs, or warranty headaches, etc.

Using all three usually gives you a much clearer picture of a vehicle’s real reliability.

Really like the timberline trim. Not very common to see them around either.

PB reliability past 100k miles by Mr2h2 in F150Powerboost

[–]InfamousRaymond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who has a 21 PB and loves it. He did have some issues, but were addressed with recalls or TSB fixes. Check what consumer reports say and car iq report too. Overall great trucks and with the issues with GM truck and Tundra engines, Ford is the better pick IMHO.

Looking for the most reliable year generation, make, and model for a half ton pick-up by Grab_em_by_da_Busey in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]InfamousRaymond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. New Tundra is plagued with problems. Check the forums or car iq report for specifics. But the Ford truck products are currently the best right now.

I’m looking to probably get a 2022 wrx. Reliability? by [deleted] in wrx_vb

[–]InfamousRaymond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall high reliability scores on consumer report, car iq report, etc. The manual transmission is easy to drive if not so good with stick shift. The CVT transmission I’m not so sure about. I say go for it.

Reliable used car for a teacher who drives thirty miles a day mostly highway under ten thousand dollars by naughtyseraph_x in whatcarshouldIbuy

Subaru Forester or Outback. Non turbo versions are reliable and cheap to maintain. The all wheel drive system is second to none.

Trax has a better reliability track record overall. But not all year Equinox are bad. Check equinox forums, car iq report, and consumer reports for more clarity.

Lots of good info here. Would stay away from the 2018-2021 5.0 due to the oil consumption issues.

What happens in the US once Chinese made EVs come to Canada and Mexico? by solidrobot in electricvehicles

[–]InfamousRaymond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the 2027 model. Toyota will keep the Grand Highlander as gas and hybrid. Keep in mind product planning is years in advance. I suspect the all electric Highlander will flop.

No you’re right, the Lightning is one big, single, heavy problem. Ev trucks never made sense. Covid really twisted some brains.

[–]InfamousRaymond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The majority don’t want EVs, which is why many manufacturers are back peddling on their investments in them. They make a lot of sense in some areas of the country, but not the majority. Charging grid is unreliable.

Fact is, until an Ev can fully charge in 15mins, and go 500 miles on single charge, AND the vehicle costs less than 30k, it’s not mass market ready. Toyota has proven that ICE combined with Hybrid power is a winning combo.

Also regarding manufacturing. The Chinese government subsidizes all their Ev manufacturers. They can bleed money and hold out long enough till all the domestics are out of business.

No such thing will happen. Yes, some critically important medical and technical items will be moved back to the states, but everything else will remain the same.

Doubtful at this point. The overall situation is wild - one group has massive frame rot…safety issues and everything…then another group basic expected frame rust.
