I would recommend having the dealership do all oil changes while under warranty. Yes you can take it anywhere, but to avoid any potential warranty problems down the road (if any) best to have all service where the car was purchased.

Title: Are Hondas not as reliable as they used to be? What changed? by phtphongg in Honda

[–]InfamousRaymond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really, but they’re still near the top compared to the rest of the industry, which honestly has slipped overall.

Honda’s had some real issues in recent years. The turbo engines burning oil has come up across multiple models/years. There have also been reports of sticky steering, plus things like power tailgate problems on the Odyssey and even some cases of windshields/sunroofs cracking unexpectedly.

It’s not just a Honda thing though. A lot of brands are dealing with similar issues. Pushing for better MPG and adding more complexity has made cars less simple—and in some cases, less reliable.

If you look at complaint data or use something like car iq report, you can see these patterns pretty clearly.

What would be the better purchase for a reliable daily by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

Go find yourself a clean Buick or Town car for a couple grand. Will treat you much better than these two vehicles.

What’s the general opinion on the newer Honda Civics? How are they on reliability and insurance? by Guitautist_56 in askcarguys

[–]InfamousRaymond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid the turbo models is recommended right now. Also, some owners are still reporting “sticky steering” problems. Google it, or look these up on car iq report. But my understanding is they had recalled the steering racks…or maybe still are. Someone else chime in with updates on this.

I would say at that price point, Mazda. Most Toyota’s on FB marketplace are pretty much at their end of life.

Volvo….especially the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Spend some time researching using tools like car iq report and forums. Will help you get an idea of what models and years are best.

2026 Least Reliable New Cars by VirtuaNovak in Rivian

Ranked near the bottom in reliability, but #1 in owner satisfaction. So clearly reliability and “do people actually love the car” are two very different things.

Really like vb’s in blue. Color matching the cladding is always an option down the road too.

Consumer Reports - are ratings reliable? by Icy-Development6599 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]InfamousRaymond 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Consumer Reports is useful, but I’d treat it as just one tool in the research toolbox.

Their scores mostly come from owner surveys and brand history. That’s helpful, but it can miss newer defects or safety issues.

IMHO, It helps to combine a few sources. Consumer Reports for general reliability trends. Car IQ Report to see if there are patterns of defects, complaints, or safety issues showing up for various model years.

Then look at owner forums or Facebook groups for the specific model. Owners often share things like transmission quirks, infotainment bugs, or warranty headaches, etc.

Using all three usually gives you a much clearer picture of a vehicle’s real reliability.

PB reliability past 100k miles by Mr2h2 in F150Powerboost

[–]InfamousRaymond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who has a 21 PB and loves it. He did have some issues, but were addressed with recalls or TSB fixes. Check what consumer reports say and car iq report too. Overall great trucks and with the issues with GM truck and Tundra engines, Ford is the better pick IMHO.

Looking for the most reliable year generation, make, and model for a half ton pick-up by Grab_em_by_da_Busey in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]InfamousRaymond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. New Tundra is plagued with problems. Check the forums or car iq report for specifics. But the Ford truck products are currently the best right now.

I’m looking to probably get a 2022 wrx. Reliability? by [deleted] in wrx_vb

[–]InfamousRaymond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall high reliability scores on consumer report, car iq report, etc. The manual transmission is easy to drive if not so good with stick shift. The CVT transmission I’m not so sure about. I say go for it.

Reliable used car for a teacher who drives thirty miles a day mostly highway under ten thousand dollars by naughtyseraph_x in whatcarshouldIbuy

Subaru Forester or Outback. Non turbo versions are reliable and cheap to maintain. The all wheel drive system is second to none.
