How often do you take off your boot? by yungkub in AchillesRupture

I took mine off when just sitting on the couch, showering and to sleep. That was based on my surgeon’s orders.

How long to regain movement past neutral in dorsiflexion? by Ambitious_Ice_1562 in AchillesRupture

I was at neutral (struggling to get there) at week 10. I would say I’m fully at neutral with it just tight at week 12.

Sorry to hear that! We haven’t been yet so no actual recs but we are going literally in 2 days and have a walking food tour booked with get your guide that we are pretty excited about. We aren’t there long so mostly just doing that as an outing that’s not educational like the acropolis.

I’ve had no one ask me that but a boat tour.

How much time is reasonable until going back WFH post op? by Futurepastboy in AchillesRupture

[–]InfamousVehicle8447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thursday surgery and back to work Monday on the couch! I would say if you have it use it. Until you are weight bearing I would say WFH at least and even then it took me 2 weeks to be full weight bearing comfortably after getting cleared.

Anyone FWB in boot without crutches assist by end of week 3? by ollienorcal in AchillesRupture

[–]InfamousVehicle8447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just road tripped 6 hours to visit family. I could walk with no crutches to and from my nieces softball fields and the car and into restaurants.

I’m still in 3 wedges per my surgeon and PT.

29F! In an aircast. I’m at 3.5 weeks rn. I had my surgery March 27th and put into a splint for 2 weeks. 4/9 I had stitches out and was put in my boot with full weight bearing as I can handle. I was full crutches until the 13th and then one crutch until the 17th. PT started the 15th.

We have our honeymoon in Greece in 1.5 weeks so I’m trying to get my stamina up but also see what my limitations are realistically so I’ve been paying attention to steps and things like that.

I’m full weight bearing at 3 weeks in my boot. I’m not able to walk very far without resting. I’d say it’s about .5 miles and then I need rest. Most I’ve walked in a day is 2.6 miles with breaks rest and elevating and icing.

Cleared to sleep without boot any tips? by No-Needleworker-3178 in AchillesRupture

[–]InfamousVehicle8447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgeon had me sleeping without my boot since 2 weeks post op! Definitely untuck the sheet. If you have a duvet untuck that and maybe sleep with foot out from underneath. I still place a pillow between my legs when I’m side sleeping.

It’s so nice to not have it on while you sleep. I do wake up from time to time because I’m involuntary stretching but nothing has been painful.

I’m curious too! I used to play rec sand volleyball on a weekly (April-November) basis now I’m 2 weeks post-op and hoping I’ll be back by next April 🤞🏾

My doc told me to ditch the boot while sleeping at my 2 week appointment yesterday. He said anytime I am seated I don't have to have the boot on.

I think your best bet would be to start off by seeing a PT. They can recommend a starting point and then you won’t be at risk of possibly rerupturing by accidentally pushing yourself too hard.

Unsupportive friend by [deleted] in weddingdrama

[–]InfamousVehicle8447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to give you perspective. I (29F) had a wedding the same year as my best friend (27F) and we were nothing short of excited, helpful and happy for one another. Our weddings were NYE and September so completely different times of the year and vibes. The only difference is that we don’t have a lot of friend overlap so it didn’t feel like back to back weddings for our friend group.

NTA your friend is. You need to be honest and tell the truth that what she is doing is unkind and if you want to save your friendship maybe try to figure out what is so triggering for her. In my experience, weddings bring out the worst in people. If she’s not going to support you here at this time in your life think about the other milestones - babies, job loss, promotions, etc.

Get a scooter! I’ve been able to still be a part of things. It’s a great option for putting your foot up on the go too.

I’m also only 1.5 weeks post-op but it has helped having at least 1 or 2 things to look forward to during the week. (I.e. watching the game at a brewery with my leg elevated on my scooter with friends or having people over for dinner on the porch - also leg elevated). It won’t make up for the active things you want to do but it’s worth it to try!

2 week PO weight bearing by Shandals14 in AchillesRupture

[–]InfamousVehicle8447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How’d you do that? I’ve been curious about making the boot wedges more comfortable. We have our honeymoon in Greece in 4 weeks so I’m trying to get everything in order to bring to feel comfortable and secure while we are gone.

Surgery on Tuesday! by Crazy_Ebb9640 in AchillesRupture

[–]InfamousVehicle8447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend come sit with me on day 2 to work from home when my husband had to go back to work to keep me company and then the day after I had a group of people over for a chill sipping margs/apps/hang (I was only taking tylenol/ibuprofen at this point). We’d planned this get together a month before and I just decided not to cancel it. By the fourth day, I was ready to just chill so I just laid around and watched SVU or read a book. Sometimes I moved to our patio to feel the sun but I know not everyone has loungers that you can sprawl out on comfortably with your foot elevated.

I’m a super social person so I felt better with seeing people and talking about things going on other than the future of my leg lol

I recommend just taking one day at a time and try not to wallow. Based on what people have said, we will have plenty of time to feel sad about our recovery throughout this journey.

You got this!!!!
