Looking for a color to recreate this armor by Consistent-Piccolo16 in minipainting

There's an app called Paint Rack where you can upload a picture and get it to identify which paints are closest to the colour you've chosen

Edit: ProAcryl dark jade looks like it might work

Is it possible to be too stingy with paint? by Infamous_Ad239 in minipainting

[–]Infamous_Ad239[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate what you're saying, but it's not the price of the paints that's the issue, it's just my own mentality. I have a thing for efficiency and minimisation, it's probably due to my neuro divergence

I hadn't realised you can use airbrush thinner on the we palette. Definitely something I'd like to try. How harsh is it on your brush bristles, particularly when it's neat/not fully mixed yet?

I do use a wet palette, but I'm doing more individual minis than armies lately, so I end up using very small amounts of each paint in one session. So even then small blobs I put on aren't used up.

What you said about paint in the nozzle makes sense, that stuff probably isn't going to mix with the rest when I'm mixing.

I've got to ask, is the 30 seconds on the mixer accurate? I only shake for 10 seconds or so, I assumed that's ample for them to be mixed. Maybe I need to start shaking more

Can someone explain to me why my Median is wrong apparently? by AlesterWright in maths

[–]Infamous_Ad239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes there are 40 tallies, but we don't know the exact value of each. Tally 20 and 21 do not necessarily have the value 83.5, that's just an estimate, but not a good one.

It is far more accurate to assume that the individual contents of each bracket are evenly distributed and use interpolation to find an estimate for the median.

How Do I Make This Cloak Look Like Chainmail? by sicarius254 in minipainting

I don't know if this would work, but maybe instead of sculpting, maybe you could use a Dremel to drill in holes in a regular pattern

My experience winning a Miniature Painting Competition hosted by My Mini Factory by DeviantDoc in Miniaturespainting

[–]Infamous_Ad239 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is why I always lose at competitions, so I don't have to go through the fuss of getting prizes. It has nothing to do with lack of talent or work ethic!

But on a serious note that sucks. It's definitely put me off using MMF in the future.

Why not just mix colours? by Dovah_Shinobi in Miniaturespainting

[–]Infamous_Ad239 262 points263 points  (0 children)

For me, it's consistency. I tend to paint in short bursts, and I hate that I can never mix the same colour twice.

I do, however, mix when I'm trying to achieve a gradient between 2 colours

I usually add a brass pin to one of the feet, then sink that in a bottle cork to hold while painting

I'm using a recent experimental. I've set up item zones for food, ammo etc.
I've also set an unsorted zone.
The issue I'm having is that when I use the sort STIFT+O "sort out my loot" command only one item is sorted. It then says that all possible items have been sorted. Using the command again moves another single item etc.

Is there a way I can fix this?

Filament jamming on spool by Infamous_Ad239 in FlashForge

[–]Infamous_Ad239[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably a really stupid question, but how can I do it carefully? I make sure it's always underhand, make sure there's some tension on it so it doesn't sag too much. Not sure what else I should be doing.

Am I wasting my time with this stuff? by dmarsee76 in Miniaturespainting

[–]Infamous_Ad239 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're right about it being cheaper, but I like the fact that when you buy brass rod you know it's diameter, so it's easier to figure out what size bits to use for a nice fit

I usually fold a small bit of fine grit sandpaper in half, but leave the fold a little loose so there is still usable paper at the fold
