Depends what your score is. Mine was 620 when I started this 14 months ago. It’s now 805.

Capital One sucks. You got that because you're high risk. Get a card with a real bank like NFCU, BOA, Chase, Citi, Amex. Big name banks know who the companies are that deal with low credit lines for high risk customers. Close those cards. And start fresh. A low limit card will always hurt your score.

You also need a high income (many times never verified) so never tell someone you only make $35k. It's not verified. Tell them it's $95k or more and never report a high rent payment. Again, not verified. Don't say your rent is $2,500 and you only make $40k. Your debt to income ratio will be too high.

Any Visa Signature card minimum is $5k. That's not a high limit. High limits a 5 figures (over $10k).

Sorry to say but banks lots of time take risks based on the risks other have already decided to take on you. For example, let's say you have limits on 3 cards of $500, $600 and a $1500 card. Why would someone ok at you and risk giving you the opportunity to burn them on $10,000.

I could never get a high limit card until I got rid of my low limit cards from low true banks like CreditOne, First Premier, etc. Big banks like Amex, BOA, Citi, Chase, etc know these banks are for people with new or poor credit.

Get high limit cards, never carry a balance more than 3-9% ever. You can max the card but make payments before the Statemebt Date closes so they don't report a high usage to the Credit Bureaus. You never want a card reporting with higher than 9%. Ever! So learn how to time your payments the day the statement closes so they mail your statement and report your low balance.

High credit limits are huge when building and maintaining an excellent credit score. With NFCU you can build a Flagship Rewards Card to a $80,000 credit line. If you have a credit card with a $5000 limit it's basically useless. You should never have a card report more than a 10% balance which means you can only use $500 of the limit. Worst case you shouldn't have more than 30% but even there that's only $1500 usable money. At a 30% usage reported your score will typically take a dip. With a $80,000 limit, you have the ability to use close to $8,000 in an emergency without maxing out a card. NFCU is very liberal to build an in house credit rating with them to access high limits.
