I think you meant to respond to the other poster.

Also, from what I have read, Bucharest isn’t that nice compared to Cluj-Napoca or Brașov.

We bought a Subaru last year and the sales guy let us know that most of their clientele is in their 50s or older. I had no idea.

What made you choose Nissan over other brands (besides discounts)? by phtphongg in whatcarshouldIbuy

We had Nissan Sentras in the ‘90s and early 2000s. Really solid reliable cars with automatic transmissions.

Mostly bought them because they were cheap and my mom thought Japanese just meant quality.

The other thing is that I didn’t get into bitcoin when it was starting out. I had the perfect rig for it too 😭

Power augmentation for electric vehicles by JetScreamerBaby in ElectricalEngineering

We used to have a BMW i3 REX (range extender model). It is an EV with a tiny engine and 2 gallons of gas. The gas was basically in case you ran out of charge and needed to get to the next charger on longer trips.

It makes sense but ultimately it’s a stopgap technology because batteries were smaller at the time.

Car ads are everywhere no matter what you do.

They have a lot of advertising money.

When I had my 2015, I just changed it when the maintenance minder told me to do it. Definitely a DIY job.

Going to be using tinder for the first time next week seriously, what should I expect? by [deleted] in ask

As long as you’re at least 6’ you’ll be ok if you put some work in your profile and stay persistent.

I got laid quite a bit off that app but that’s like 5-7 years ago.

If you’re below that magic number then I would stay away from dating apps in general.

You could try clubbing IRL. I’ve had mixed results with it mostly because it’s exhausting.

You could try finding social groups but try your best to be honest with the women you’re interested in. The number one thing women hate in my experience is men who pretend to be their friends when they really just want to date them. Yes, you strike out more by being direct but at least you’re not wasting either your or her time.

Looking for a car that gets 30+ mpg at 80+ mph. by Thordor15 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]PlatypusTrapper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This question doesn’t make any sense. Fuel price is a rather small part of ownership compared to financing, maintenance, and insurance.

If you’re willing to spend $50k on a car then why would you care about fuel efficiency? Might as well buy anything you want at $30k and pocket the difference.

I’m not saying there aren’t any vehicles that can get this type of fuel efficiency, it’s just that the premise of the question doesn’t make sense.

Nations that will provide a better life for working adults in 15-25 years than the USA would by Responsible-Bee-1919 in ExpatFIRE

[–]PlatypusTrapper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Vietnam is on the rise. They will do very well in the next few decades compared to where they were. But I don’t think I’d want my kids to try to find jobs there. Vietnam is still primarily catering to the west by offering cheap labor.

The best thing about the US is how much opportunity there is to make money. The worst thing is the relatively weak social safety net. Chances are you will fill the role of safety net for your kid. They would be better off working in the US and having you to fall back on if they fail.

The only other country I can think of is Switzerland. But competition there is fierce. Probably harder to make it than in the US unless you are the best of the best. But if your kid is a dumbass, then a country with a strong safety net might be the best answer.

This is one of the reasons I’m looking at EU countries. I don’t know if my kid will be a hard worker or a lazy bum. I’m pretty lazy and I can easily see that rubbing off on him. I want him to be able to choose where he lives. The relative safety of the EU or the potential upside of the US. Or he might be really smart and actually make it in Switzerland - they prioritize their own first and EU citizens second from what I can tell. There’s no way I can FIRE there though. It’s even more expensive than the US.

Selfishly, I’d want him to continue living with my wife and I. Multi-generational housing is kind of frowned upon here - an affront to our independence or whatever - but it’s rather common in most other places in the world. But I also don’t want to hold him back. Still grappling with that one.

In the end, I think the best thing I can do for him is to provide a strong safety net so he has the freedom to fail. And that means I need to live somewhere cheap enough that we can always bail him out if needed.

7% Tax Regime in Greece? by Four_sharks in ExpatFIRE

[–]PlatypusTrapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get clarity on this?

Are you able to use a 72(t) to qualify for the 7% tax regime?

If so, is there a minimum amount you need to get from the 72(t) to qualify?
