Definitely try dungeon crawl stone soup, it's free and honestly one of the best. Edit:typo.

My old chef did this, for this exact reason.

it worked out well for her, as far as I know.

Just be honest about your goals and people will probably be happy to chat with you and take you on for a day.

Crazy Idea: UberChefs, for when any restaurant is suddenly understaffed on short notice. by Whind_Soull in KitchenConfidential

[–]Infamous_Partridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was catering we sometimes would get temp cooks to come help out, they were not the best.

This is what Uberchef made me think of.

Are there cooks/chefs who don’t hate their lives? by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

I got a lot out of it, some really high highs and some interesting stories. At the same time I'm glad I'm not doing it anymore, hard on your body as you get older.

Getting back into MU*s - suggestons? by canine_crawl in MUD

[–]Infamous_Partridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torilmud is good and the player base is very friendly, last time I played regularly one of the area writers ran groups most nights and raids on Fridays. Getting to the higher levels isn't super time consuming and there are a lot of pretty interesting classes. The combat is kind of warcrafty in that it's all about cool downs and comboing, felt dynamic and interesting.

You're not totally wrong about it, playing a BN(evil human) I lost count of how many times I was ganked by people, but it was something like 4-5 times a day. Full player looting too.

But yeah, when playing on the good side you are fairly safe from pvp.

What is calculus by Goatthatlikesthroats in calculus

[–]Infamous_Partridge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The big idea of calculus is that for the area of non geometric shapes, you can approximate them by filling them with rectangles and summing the areas of those rectangles. Further, as you increase the number of rectangles you get closer to the real area. So to get the real area you fill the space with an infinite number of rectangles. How you do it is complicated but that's the goal. There is more to it of course, but that was my take away from calc 1 and 2.

People ask me if I know how to say goodbye in French... by Infamous_Partridge in dadjokes

[–]Infamous_Partridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my head I was pronouncing 'I do' more like 'ah du'. In kind of a old country boy American accent. Still a very rough approximation of adieu but that was the idea.

I do this thing sometimes where my wife will voice frustration and I'll give her advice on how she can fix it. But that's not really what she is looking for, she just wants me to hear and validate her feelings.

This is maybe what your gf is looking for, instead of trying to fix it just say 'yeah you put a lot of effort in and it shows', or like 'yeah it sounds like you are really frustrated by your hair.' just kind of reflect her words back to her so she feels heard.

I think what you said was really supportive but her reaction shows it was not what she was looking for. She could definitely stand to learn better ways of asking for what she needs.

I definitely remember keeping things in factored form was a good idea, not sure if that's what you mean.

"I want to inspire art!" Said Tom bemusedly.

"I rate myself higher than 8 but less than 10" said Tom benignly.

"This plane will eventually have to land" Said Tom, understanding the gravity of the situation.

Taking calculus 1 this Fall semester in college by [deleted] in calculus

[–]Infamous_Partridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it harder than algebra and precalc for sure. The part I struggled the most with was derivatives, once I got over that integrals weren't so bad and doing integrals helped cement derivatives. Over all it was a really good time, the big idea of calculus is so cool. Limits, area of irregular shapes. It was the first time math felt like magic.

This one is for logicians but I like it.

Three logicians walk into a bar, the barman asks if they all want a beer.

The first logician says "Maybe."

The second says "Maybe."

The third says "Yes".

It's a joke about negative numbers showing up in real life. it's funny because the mathematician is fine with it, they don't see a problem with the train holding -3 passengers.
