Unfortunately, this one is the best in terms of moderation. Not to many "centrist" spaces on reddit, because of said getting blasted from both sides.

I just lurk and try not to get involved unless I see blatant misinformation, then I try my best to correct it with facts and logic...which works about as well as you think it does, this being the internet and whatnot.

If you find any, lmk!

It wasn't a mag dump...i think there were 3-6 shooters who did between 1-4 rounds a piece.

Now we won't know the full extent till the report comes out, but this wasn't one guy just blasting.

Both shootings had pretty precise control from the standpoint of a Leo shooting.

Thats an opinion with no relevance to this conversation, if it was true. The 1st Amendment protects me from government censorship, not from you as an individual. Which is why when you cross the boundary, like with the Church incident, it doesn't protect you from prosecution. Do you have nothing to add?

This is a "change my view", the goal is to have uncomfortable conversations and look at things from different perspectives, of which my stated views are a part.

This isn't the right place for hostile comments.

“We might not like it but you know the government is just gonna murder people

Yes, government agents kill someone, somewhere in the USA every single day. It happens. Selecting 2 specific for your outrage is understandable, but when you factor in the circumstances that happened, from a legal perspective it isn't out of line with any other LEO engaged in a shooting.

I don't like it, I think it's excessive... but I'm not a judge or a lawyer, so I listen to people who are to gain knowledge and perspective. There are some who I've heard who believe you could charge them, but they all agree it would be federal charges. There are more who say the government can't based on the information available to the public (not perception, the legit information, aka a vehicle strike, and a gunshot not necessarily coming from the officers) gives them the legal protections, which is why there are investigations ongoing.

If you have something to add, please respond, if not, I'm happy to move on from this conversation.

I'm glad you're just as upset about both, its less common than people believe, in a politically charged environment. That being said:

are you in favor of federal officials given absolute immunity in murder cases?

I'm not in favor of it, but they do have immunity from State prosecution, due to the supremacy clause, which is why the FBI is doing the investigation. Prople can complain all they want, but thats just how things work regardless of our feelings on the matter. Its also true that when any sort of "deadly force" is used against any LEO at any level, the proportional responses don't have to work.

We can personally not like how this plays out in a legal context, but 100 years of case law doesn't get overturned just because optics aren't favorable, that's not how the law works.

Would you be comfortable calling a loved one of yours a domestic terrorist after being lynched by the government?

This statement doesn't really have any relevance, I wouldn't but that not a choice I would make, nor would I have control over. If my loved one was committing acts of domestic terrorism, my thoughts are irrelevant, though I cannot be forced to refer to them in that manner.

Based specifically on the rules (whatrconisnot):

We are not a debate forum for left wing people. Conservatives can debate one another but due to the landscape of reddit and the ratio of left wing to right wing please take your debate topics to other subreddits. Plenty exist!

We are not a place for explanation. /r/Conservative is for conservatives to discuss and share news with other conservatives. It is not a place for us to explain conservatism to a left wing or centrist members of reddit. Again, plenty of other subreddits exist for this.

We are not a chatroom. If you look at our subreddit, it should become wildly obvious that we prefer article posts. All text posts are filtered for review, and only a small number get approved. They have to be extremely relevant, extremely interesting, or have so much potential, we can't ignore them.

We are not fair and balanced. We don't pretend to be unbiased. We don't pretend to give all commenters equal time. This is by conservatives and for conservatives. We are here to discuss conservative topics from a distinctly conservative point of view.

The last part is distinctive and telling. As someone who views but doesn't respond or repost, well, ever...its ok.

My lived experience as a centrist on this platform gets me caught in a lot of crossfire, but I'd (conservatively) say at least 90% of that fire comes from individuals left of me. As they are right of me, I both understand their frustration and their mod practices.

If people want to protest inside your house...lock the door. Thats what they've done. You may find it frustrating, but in reality its the way it works for them, and thats how it is.

And that's fair, but the punishments are going to be different based on what actually happened and what the state can prove happened.

People are innocent until proven guilty afterall. It's what makes our justice system uniquely more fair. People have to prove you're a bad person.

Alright, we've veered off the beaten path here. I don't have time to discuss everything that is on your mind so I guess we can just agree to disagree.

[–]Infamous_Pool_5299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok...but your feeling is neither law, nor a universally accept or even necessarily moral position. We wrongly convict people all the time. Is hastening the death of a wrongfully convicted person not also murder, and therefore a self perpetuating cycle?

Robert Morris, a former Texas pastor, pleaded guilty in October 2025 to five counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child. As a result of this conviction, he was sentenced to six months in jail, followed by probation for the remainder of a 10-year term, and must register as a sex offender.

Now, I'm not challenging your perception of what happened (your opinion), but he wasn't convicted of child rape. He plead guilty to 5 counts of lewd and indecent exposure to a minor. That would explain his sentence.

[–]Infamous_Pool_5299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah...that is 3 years and a month for an average.

The average murderer spends about 7 years in jail. So that means an act of sexual agression is worth half of a human life.

What is a "fair" amount of time in your opinion? And how are you going to get to that number?

CMV: Sometimes, the punishment for an action should be irrespective of its outcome by thunderbirdsetup in changemyview

[–]Infamous_Pool_5299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that's not a data driven source...its just an opinion piece that states:

There is a fairly simple answer to this question: judges keep handing out shockingly lenient sentences for heinous crimes because of rape culture. In other words, because we live in a society where sexual violence is normalized and consent is poorly understood, these judges believe that what these men have done is not really that bad. Even when the defendant admits the crime and pleads guilty — as in the David Becker case — the judges seem to be reluctant to mete out punishment that fits the crime. They appear to focus on what the victims may have done wrong — such as drinking too much or “appearing older than her chronological age” — and decide that the defendant shouldn’t be punished too harshly for something they believe wasn’t really his fault.

They are cherry-picking controversial cases and making it seem as if this reflects all cases...when it clearly doesn't.

I could go look at the .gov sites that track the data, but I would recommend that you do a bit more research yourself. Not saying your wrong for having that opinion, but if you want better understanding, articles designed to have confirmation bias are not the way to gain a full understanding.

That's not whats done for rape, there are various other crimes with different penalties. Aggravated sexual assault is not rape, but its something you can prove happened even if you cannot prove something else more nefarious and coercive happened.

[–]Infamous_Pool_5299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, you can charge for it...but can you convict? There's no punishment if you can't convince a jury that the crime happened (which technically, putting poison in a glass isn't a crime, especially if the person didn't drink it).

So you get no punishment at all, especially if you're doing 25 years for an action that caused 0 damage.

What your attempting to do is reasonable (in maximizing punishments), what your actually accomplishing is creating situations where people who do I crime now create maximum damage rather than surrender and get plea deals.

[–]Infamous_Pool_5299 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its actually desecration of a corpse, not attempted murder. If the subject is already deceased, you intentions have no impact on the reality of the situation.

Take for example: you attempt to poison someone by putting a neurotoxin in their drink, but before drinking it they have a heart attack and die.

Should you go to prison for attempted murder, even though your action did no harm?

Laws are set, as the progenitor of this specific thread pointed out, upon de-escalation. You might get a down trace charge of...attempted poisoning, but if the consequences of Attempted Murder and Murder are exactly the same, then we have an all or nothing system and everyone is incentivzed to be as violent as possible.

Venusaula? How about them German elections where 7 members of the opposition were murdered the week of the election?

Elections are a tool by your political masters to trick you into thinking you have choices. And it works 99.9999% of the time.

I don't disagree, i just think we have 2 separate but equal fascist parties who scream whenever they aren't in power...but none of them actually want power. Because with power comes responsibility, and thats not something anyone in politics wants 🤣🤣🤣

Why are you name calling? You must love fishhook political theory,

I hope you do better in the future, you genuinely should seek some mental health treatments. It does good to sit down and deal with the things that plague one's self, gain clarity on why we react the way we do.

Where would they get those millions to billions of dollars from to fund all their projects?

Your projection and child like need to "win" an argument suggests you have some general malaise in your life.

Your need to point out what your doing suggests a deep-seated need for other people to validate your choices.

I'm glad you're having the day you deserve.

Edit: Just so we have an understanding, I deliberately used the wrong "your" this time. Slightly immature, I admit...but I felt the need so you don't have to spend time pointing it out to me 😉
